It's a lovely knob!! Old one came off after a good yank in second gear, no dramas or injuries :D

You were very lucky young man not to have any drama or injuries yanking your knob off in second gear.

I love mine too.

At night there is an orange LED spot light from the reading lights which continuously lights that area, but would still look better lit orange, tempted to fit an illuminating one to mine 8)

Could you clarify what you actually have to ask he dealer for to get this.

Is it the Z4M illuminated or some other part?

Just ask for the Z4 ZHP Gear Knob. If you ring Jamie at BMW Sopers in Lincoln, mention this forum, he'll send you one for about £44 including VAT and postage.

It is not illuminated but most people don't bother because they know exactly where the gear stick is. :D

I asked for Jamie but he was away however his colleague in the parts dept was more than helpful and did me the same deal, just mentioned I'd seen them mentioned on here :)

I had heard of the illuminated gearknob but tbh it didnt really appeal and I couldnt be bothered with wiring it in etc, just wanted the improved driving experience. Don't know why they didnt come with the ZHP as standard as it really does make a marked improvement. The gear change was the only negative to the car for me however it feels soooo much better now :)

Do you have a part number for this, looking at getting one, hope they live up to the hype.

Let me check the box matey, if you call Soper though they'll know what your after. I'm v fussy with things like this and I'm very happy with it :)

Sorry, I dont get it! maybe it looks nicer and feels better but enhance the gear change... Please :poke:
It does... The leverage is totally different so the feel of the change is much more satisfying

I concur. The weighted shift, combined with the shorter lever really does make shifting better

Is it still illuminated?

If you want an illuminated one contact this guy, he can do 6 speed versions. It's where I got mine from

does it change the shaft down into the mechanism then, the knob on mine isnt too long as it is but just by the feel/size you can see it cant have much weight to it.

do they only come in black? my interior is creamy coloured and the ali so a black one would look cheap and tacky. mine looks a bit tatty anyway so it was something i was thinking of trying to tart up/get recovered etc

Can I ask what the difference is about the ZHP gear knob to a 6 speed M sport leather gear knob? Ive browsed ebay, but nothing comes up for ZHP.

I want one, but there seems to be a few on ebay that look similar, but im not sure. someone please help!! lol

Mike

I think its because its weighted,,,, stands back and prepares to told why... but get onto sopers they dont come up very often i bought mine on here someone else was after it but dropped out after a couple of days so i thought why not and its a nice piece of kit.
