Fitted dash cam yesterday

Fitted a Blackvue 750s front camera yesterday. Mounting the bracket on the windscreen, removing the sun visor, the A pillar cover, installing the power cable and re-fitting trim took about 25 minutes.
Decided to connect to the so called fuse box from hell. Not so called anymore! Who in BMW signed off on that design? What a piece of sh1t design! Why not turn it upside down and put a plastic protective cover over it to stop fuses/relays dropping out? Getting it down as was and installing onto fuse 8 took the thick end of 90 minutes, grazed knuckles and forearms and much swearing!
Didn’t fit a power block to keep the camera running when away from the car as I had read that Z’ds are very voltage conscious.
Feel much better now I’m recording when driving. There are some crazies out there.

The Parking Guard I have fitted has a setting to alter so you can choose how low the voltage can go before it stops recording!

AnubisZed. Got an adjustable parking guard fitted to the Q2 but the Zed seems a little fragile where voltage is concerned.

I've had mine fitted about a year now and it's not been a problem, went away last September for a week so left the Z4 behind but no problems when I came back :driving:

I might look at permanent wiring my dash cam. At the moment it's plugged into the arm rest cig socket.
But a few weeks ago i witnessed the car in front run a red at a crossing and nearly run someone over, in fact at first i thought they had been hit as the person went flying over quite dramatic. I pulled over and said to chap crossing i have it on camera. Later he said not to worry that's life. He had in fact lashed out at the car, the reason he fell over.
When i come to play back the footage, i found out the camera had become unplugged and nothing had recorded.

AnubisZed. I’ll buy a power supply based upon your experience. Thanks for the input.
Flybobbie. I was going to run mine to the ciggie lighter but had to go past the fuse box (Grrrrrrr!) to get there so thought “Why not”. Actually, if you take your time and don’t get angry (Grrrrrr) it’s not too bad. Hindsight’s wonderful eh!
Glad to have a camera fitted. As mentioned previously, someone hit my wife’s Q5 (Car before the Q2) and said the my wife had reversed into her. Showed the footage on her phone. Other driver sheepishly admitted liability. I had already saved the footage remotely.

Fitted mine 2 weeks ago; instead of routing the cable down the A pillar I went with the method detailed here in the forum of scotch-blocking it into the violet and white wire found above the cabin centre light, and fitted with a step-down converter to handle the power difference. Looks neat but still took me maybe an hour or so to work out how to get it set up neatly with the wire running down out of the rear-view mirror housing and into the camera.
