First Z4 - what are the 'must have' options

Hi all,

Currently driving a very old MGF and looking at buying a new Z4. Clearly any Z4 is going to be a nice jump up from my current car so I'm not going to be too fussy but I would appreciate knowing what you guys regard as the must-have options.

There's an offer at the moment where they throw in the connectivity and navigation packages so that's great and will save me a lot of money. What else should I add on?

I will have it in leather obviously but then that brings another question... I was intending to get the base 23i model and add leather but the Sport one is about 4k more and includes it so is it worth biting the bullet and getting the Sport?

Thanks for any feedback you might have for me!

Sam

Hi Sam

heated seats (the most important invention since internal combustion)
connectivity and navigation
big wheels

That's all you need

Thanks guys.

If I remember what was on the screen correctly, they had added on something like £600 for Seal & Protect. Is this worth getting or will looking after the car properly (wax, etc.) be enough?

Don't bother with that, as it's simply a paint treatment applied by their valet monkeys, and costs them about £35.

Spend the money on some decent detailing gear and do it yourself, or save the money and get it properly detailed every couple of months.

Get the M Sport model. :) I bought mine with 2 complimentary specification upgrade in April. Used M Sport models start from £26k. A standard 23i really needs sports seats, leather interior, wind-deflector, loudspeaker system - BMW Business, auto-dimming mirror, rain sensor, connectivity package, and 18" wheels.

+1. BMW Seal & Protect should only be around £350, not £600.

In the options list, negotiate. Get them to throw stuff in.

When I picked up my approved used Zed, they wouldn't budge on the price, so I got extended warranty, seal and protect kit, full tank of fuel, Road tax, new carpets, boot net, tyre insurance and they waived the admin fee of £2k. They even threw in some clothes from the catalogue and a bunch of flowers for keeping the fiancé waiting while we negotiated. To buy all this would've cost me ££££. To them, its giving away £ to close the sale.

Try this line, "OK, OK, so if you won't budge on the price, how you going to make me feel like I'm getting a good deal? The other dealer has offered me blah blah blah."

Remember, loads of dealers want to sell you a car. You're only going to buy 1.

Probably going to buy this week.

Unfortunately I can't get the M Sport as the insurance is ridiculous, not been driving/living long enough.

I have tried searching the forum about whether to upgrade the speaker system, I was going to because standard BMW ones always sounds appalling. Is it worth it and should I get the middle ones (business) or the top ones (professional I think)? I'm not really interested in fitting anything myself.

Re the stereo, yes go for the professional/top option,as it is great compared to standard 1 :)
oh yeah, and heated seats are good to have with leather

i very rarely use my heated seats, but i still would have to have them
I use my heated seats pretty much every day in the winter as they heat you up far quicker than the fan heater especially in city driving where the engine takes longer to heat up due to start/stopping all the time. 

Definitely going to review the spec when I go down there later. Bought a couple of things from the comfort pack so might just add that whole pack on and then the heated seats that everyone raves about.

Tempted by the sport seats, I'm assuming I can get those heated as well?
