First Z4 Coupe Advice

Hi Everyone

I'm current looking to buy a Z4 Coupe, I've wanted one for years but only recently decided to look in to getting one. It's seems the going rate at the moment is around 10k-14k for a 06-09 si sport model.

I've been casually looking at them for a few years and it doesn't seem in that time they have really come down in price.

I was wondering what everyone's best guess is of what the Z4 Coupes depreciation will be over the next 3-4 years?

Given that the model is no 7 years old but price has been fairly stable over last 3 years is it due for a sudden drop in value?

Hi Joe, and welcome.

I don't think the 3.0 si Sport model will suddenly drop in price. I think the best examples will remain at fairly steady prices and really not experience much depreciation over the next few years.

The depreciation will happen to the cars that start to show visible signs of wear and tear, have poor service histories or start to creep into the levels of higher mileage.

A clean, well looked after and maintained car, with lower mileage will keep it value in my opinion.

For what it's worth, the prices of good Z4M coupé seem to be starting to increase. The appreciation of Z4M's will only help the residual values of the 3.0.

I agree with Steven, the prices will not drop, in the last two years mine has depreciated at around £1k per annum (doing 3k a year in mileage). However I bought mine from BMW..

Looking at the way the market is moving im fairly confident that after 10 years of age and 50k miles, my car will still retain around £9-10k however the majority of examples will be more like £6-8k depending on spec, mileage and condition.

Looking at 10 year old Z4s now £5k is the bottom line for them and I expect the less produced coupes to keep their value better due to the limiting factor.
 
Thanks for your help guys that's all great to know, I've been shopping about and test driven a few over the last week can't seem to find the one as yet tho....just a matter of time.

As with any car the price completely depends on mileage and condition, I got my 2008 Z4C for 8k last year but that was due to relatively high mileage (100k) and it needed a fair bit of work doing to it. So there are cheaper ones out there, I saw one for 7k last year which had 165k miles. But now I've sorted mine out, I'm confident I could sell it for the same price, if not more. The coupe is a pretty rare car, there were about 10 times as many roadsters made, so it's fairly safe to assume that like the Z3 coupe it will hold its value pretty well.

If budget is an issue don't be put off by high mileage, BMW engines are known for their durability and 150k+ is considered no problem in other models such as the 3 and 5 series, they have the same engines. The only negative is resale value, but you pay less for it in the first place so paying over the odds for a low mileage one can be a false economy.
 
Hi , this is something I considered when I bought mine a couple of months ago. Like you I had been looking for a while. Only regret Is that I never went for the 3l !
