First Z4....3.0si roadster. Needs roof motor repair

Hi guys,

I made a spur of the moment decision to buy a Z4. It's a 3.0si manual and it's fun to drive which was the main reason for buying. This seems to be a great forum for knowledge. I have a problem with the roof motor not working correctly. The motor still spins but does not raise the roof. I was told that the motor was disconnected on the Bowden cable but it seems it's in the engaged position to me. I'm wondering if it could be low on oil or leaking maybe or if it is the motor. I'm in the Midlands. Can anyone recommend someone to fix this for me please and how much I'd be looking at?

Thanks in advance

Jon.

The bowden cable operates a plunger on the motor which will be seized in place. Needs motor pulling out and plunger freeing up.

Welcome, I bought mine last year and enjoying the drive. This forum is great and full of helpful members. Unfortunately I’m still learning about the Z4’s mechanicals so can’t help you with the motor issue. Hopefully you can get it working without too much expense though may be a good opportunity to relocate it to the boot and keep it nice and dry. :D

Number5 is in Bristol, he can help with the roof.

Hi, I’ve got the same problem, it’s a common fault, just look on YouTube...I am midlands too so I’d also like to know of a localish repair place.
You know you can put it up and down manually in the meantime don’t you? If not, look on YouTube, it’s simple.

Yep. Happy to help if I can.
I'll send you some contact details rather than publish them on the web.

Hello chaps....just been down to see No 5 in Bristol who fixed my problem in just a few hours, I couldn’t be happier.
Easy to find off either m4 or m5, a really helpful and all round good man.
Can’t recommend highly enough - thank you!
