First weekend with the new car

Finally picked up my car on saturday afternoon, after an enternally long two weeks.. and am absolutely loving it!
I especially enjoyed playing with the seat memory, and finding that the previous owner was either a contortionist, or a masakist lol.

Only things I'm starting to find are that my out left leg, just below the knee seems to get sore from resting on the door card - wish it was soft and pliable like the dash near the other knee..
Also wish the traction control wasn't AS controlling.. I'm going to experiment (carefully) with the various degrees of "off" that are available, but i found the standard to be very tight... especially in the current weather.

oh.. and the window wipers.. is it a known "issue" with them not returning back to the correct spot perfectly?
Sometimes they'll park up about an inch and block vision slightly.. sometimes they'll park perfectly and not....

anyway - pictures to come very soon :D

i also have the wiper issue. seems to go away once the ignition is off. I am sure that C10Jeeper installed a new relay or something ?. i am sure he will be along shortly to give you the details.

In that case I'll take a seat and watch The Wire while I wait :)

I thought this too - but am sure I would be saying the opposite if I was off the road in a ditch due to lack of skills! Happy driving

I've not found the TC too intrusive on mine, it cuts in right at the point the rear tyres start to slip. if i wanted to drift i would just turn it off :?

are there different settings for the TC?

there's off.. and more off.. and that's all I've found at the moment.
off is achieved by pressing the button... more off by holding the button for a few seconds.

I'm not talking about drifting - but trying to pull away quickly.. with it "on", you will find it cuts the power a lot if it starts to slip a bit... with it "off", you can get more power down and are allowed a little bit of a slip... with it "more off" you can spin up the tyres.

First setting (Briefly press DSC button) turns off the DSC (Stability Control), second setting (Hold button for 3 seconds) turns off DSC and DTC (Traction control) and you are on your own...

never had a problem with it myself - alot less intrusive than previous systems Ive had from Alfa and Peugeot

From the BMW Website:

Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) on the BMW Z4 Roadster.
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) recognises the onset of a skid and stabilises the vehicle within milliseconds. It continuously monitors wheel speed, lateral acceleration and yaw rate and, if the limits are reached, adjusts the engine management, reduces torque and also activates the brakes on each individual wheel.

Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) on the BMW Z4 Roadster.
Explore the limits, without exceeding them. The standard Dynamic Traction Control system (DTC) increases slip at the driven wheels in order to ensure optimum traction on any surface. Only in critical driving situations does Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) intervene. Until then, the driver is left to discover the Z4 Roadster's potential to the full.

The info from daveg makes it sound like DSC is still active in the background (but to a lesser extent) even if you've pressed the button breifly to disable it. and are running with just the DTC active: "Only in critical driving situations does Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) intervene"

I've read it all in the manual before, but does holding the button down for a few seconds to disable DSC and DTC actually disable them fully? I've not been brave/silly enough to try that out for myself...

Either way, I've not go an issue with them - much better than the ESP on my Clio 172 which was too intrusive in comparison to the BMW system.

Try a few wheelies and see what happens :D

Glad you are enjoying your Z

Personally i never touch any buttons as i dont think i have the skills to catch it if all goes wrong and do not want to trash such a stunning car

I presume ABS is still active no matter what state DSC and DTC are in?

Thanks,
Dave

i'd be increadibly supprised if you were able to turn ABS off with a button, i dont think i've ever seen it before, usually have to remove a fuse to deactivate it.

teaches better driving habbits without it IMO

Isn't the ABS sensor clipped onto the splash thingy behind the front wheels? Can you just not unlip it?

you wouldn't want to remove the ABS sensors.. but simply turn of the ABS brain.. as it's a ten second thing to turn it back on whenever you want :)

As SK93 said, you would remove the fuse for the ABS system, wouldnt want to try removing the sensors from the hubs (or where ever they are located on the Zed?)

but, its still not an intrusive system, i've not pushed mine as far as kicking in yet and the only time i would consider de-activating it would be on the track if i was trying to shave a second or so a lap ;)
