I just picked up the car on Friday - then my wife and I set off for a weekend away in the south west of Scotland.
The road south to Edinburgh was motorway, then, when we got on the A702, it was absolutely nose-to-tail weekend drivers all the way down to Crawford.
As soon as the road (A702) crosses over the M74 it changes character completely as it sweeps and swoops through the Lowther hills towards Thornhill.
From Thornhill towards New Galloway the road gets a little narrower but even more twisty as it passes through some very picturesque farmland. For the next section of our run on to Newton Stewart, we changed over onto A712 "the Queen's Way" which passes through the Galloway Forest Park, well known by rally car enthusiasts. We even got mixed up with some rally cars travelling between sections - which proved to be very entertaining. The final part of the journey down to Portpatrick was a bit of a let down, after the previous exertions.
When we arrived in Portpatrick, we discovered that this was the weekend of the annual Folk Music Festival - so we had a very enjoyable night out on the town.
