First trip in my 'new' Z4.

What fun I had! Did a round trip of about 540km on some decent and some less than decent backroads . Mostly a good experience, just have to get used to the hard suspension. I'm used to the airsuspension in the Discovery for long trips.

Things I didn't like so much:
Hard/harsh suspension
Can't find the bloody button to reset the trip meter. I konw, I know, I will read the manual this week! 8)
I'm also battling to engage first gear and reverse gear when enigine is cold?
The car seems to be all over the place on bad roads.

Things I liked:
The peppiness of the 2.0 litre engine
The positive, shortthrow gear changes
Good roadholding and brakes and excellent manners on good roads
Size of the boot(relative)
Excellent consumption of about 13.5km/l (32miles/gallon) including some spirited driving.

The Z sure does attract a lot of attention in the rural areas here in South Africa. All in all I am very happy with my purchase. Not a car I'd like to live with in everyday traffic but a rather nice, affordable toy for the weekends.

Sounds like you had fun. You'll get used to the suspension. Binning the run flat tyres will help

I will stick to the runflats, in SA it sadly, often, costs people their lives if they get stranded with a flat tyre.

I asked my mechanic about the stiff gear changes (in 1st & reverse) when the engine was cold & he said it was due to the uhm gearbox oil that BMW put in. BMW's whole "Lifetime" use is not accurate he said. That said I keep forgetting to change out the fluid myself or have Pete do it. Shame on me.

Absolutely... know of a few bad cases out there... Might be worth looking into a different brand of runflat though when it comes time to change, I believe the Michelins are much better.
