First time z4 buyer and need some advice...

Hi all

New on here and to z4's

I am upgrading from my current car a seat Ibiza and am looking into getting a z4. I have been looking around for a while and am viewing this car tomorrow. http://www.goochcarcentre.com/used-cars/bmw-z4-2-0i-se-2dr-lowestoft-201408086454464

Really wanted some advice really on whether the price looks reasonable (£7995) for a 2006 model with 60,000 on the clock.

Excited to view and drive this. I have read through the checklist that is on this forum, for what to look out for and questions to ask.

Anything else I should be aware of?

Hi mate , the car looks well enough but bearing in mind its low spec ,2.0 with 16inch wheels do expect a hefty drop in value once you drive away
Plus side is decent colour , miles are ok ( not high or low ) & you should have some warranty or comeback if any problem's .
Unless its really the 4 cyl you want i would hunt a while longer for a 6 cyl model with a few more tricks

Price looks a little on the high side, I paid under 8k for mine, 07 plate with 42k on the clock. Also mine had the M-sport pack with 18 inch alloys and the other stuff.

That was from a VW dealer nearly a year ago.

Although I have noticed the prices haven't gone down alot over the last year or so.

Hi and welcome. :)

As above I would suggest a higher spec as that is the most basic zed you can get. If your going for a facelift get a Sport model, much better spec and a lot easier to sell on.

Also as above if you can get a 6cyl model, much smoother engines and won't cost much more if any to run.

My advice would be to hold out for a 6 cylinder.

But you're in the right space - black roadster is a great choice! :D

Thanks a lot for all the replies.

Excuse my ignorance but is the 6 cylinder the 3.0 model?

I was looking into a 2.0 to keep my insurance down. Glad I'm on the right track with a black roadster though.

Probably still take this one for a run as I've never drove a z4 or anything over a 1.4...

Thanks again

6 cylinders are the 2.5 or 3.0 model.
There is an excellent pre-buyers guide written by another guy on here (AlanJ) which I will add the link for, if I can find it.

Mate don't spend 8k on a 2.0

The whole point of this car is about the driving experience. get yourself a 3.0 then that will keep you happy while you dream about an M

The 6cyl engines come in 2.2/2.5/3.0 and in the "M"versions 3.2 with the rare alpina a 3.4.
If you can afford a little extra I would get a 6, it really makes the car more special, I paid a little over 7k for my facelift 3litre in march

Hi spittingllama - (Interesting name!)

All of the above (I had the facelift 2.0i sport and loved it but went for a 3 litre after). The running costs are higher not so much in insurance but in fuel (if you use the potential of the six cylinders you get the third reduction in mpg!) You can get over 30 on a run but under 30 in town or when using the performance - I noticed a big difference in running the 2 litre and the 3 litre in terms of fuel costs but if you want the performance you have to pay for it!

A pre-facelift (pre 2006) 3.0i (231bhp as against 3.0si 265bhp) might be an option for you? Cheaper to buy than a 3.0si and just as capable - more available on the market - the owners swear by them and their engine and a well maintained and cherished version with a new roof motor, sports seats, uprated wheels could be yours with money left over for your insurance and running costs. Have a look at some of those that have been offered in the Buy and Sell section of the forum to get an idea.

Finally - be a patient. There are lots of 3.0i versions and it may take time to find the spec and colour you want in a well maintained Zed; the 3.0si version is a little rarer, though there are some strongly priced 2006 versions available. It took me months to find a later (2008) 3.0si at the price I wanted (but not in my preferred colour!)

Good luck in your search.

:driving:

Just get the straight six...even mine, which is a 2.5 sounds great which you hit the sweet spot!!! And is quick when you need it to be...I love my baby so much!!!
