First time back on track = FAIL.

Well guys, im quick to report when things are going well , unfortunately today was not that day.....

Without banging on about it, been out of action for some time due to serious illness / covid / extremely busy workload ( mostly the illness bit ) so ive been well and truly out of the track scene... Today was my first outing and i cant even lie.... I'm slightly deflated, lol! Cars absolutely fine, but i literally couldn't handle it at all, I remember I used to Hussle that car along at an obscene pace, today...... throttle inputs terrible, jerky out of time downshifts, kissed the limiter way more than I care to admit, car sliding all over the place with a real lack of control from myself. For the first time I can remember , I actually felt out of my depth, the car felt way to powerful , i actually felt REALLY unskilled . To top it off an old fella ( the no filter type ) commented i need a slower car :x to which I laughed but the ego was bruised , i left early

anyone had a good break from track work got back and just felt completely out of your depth? its not something i expected to loose, but i definitely HAVE. I'm hoping with more practice i can be at one with my unicorn once again. LOVED being back with the guys however.

Yep same thing happend to me at goodwood in 2019. I would t worry about it mate , main problem for me is i don't drive the z4m much anywhere so its hard build that connection with the car.
Re build slowly and id defo recommend going out with the track driver for a session . You will soon be flying again 👍

Don’t be giving yourself a hard time bud, been a long time since you’ve been driving like that

Re the tosser comment about a slower car, same answer I gave you about the tossers and the eBike f**k them :D

Sorry to hear that.

Some time with a track driver sounds like a good plan, and then hopefully with a bit more track time it will all come back to you.

If at first you don't succeed.............................
This is the smallest challenge you have faced. You'll beat it

I know what you mean.
Tracks you know well, you feel you should be doing better, especially with a car you know, but it's to be expected,so no point worrying about it.
You've had an awful couple of years, and time will get you back to your best on track again.

As said,no point giving yourself a hard time over it.
You've had major illness, chemo etc etc. The guy making those comments didn't know that,or he probably wouldn't of said them.
But not worth bothering about mate.

Give yourself time, and more track days, and you'll get back there.
Take care

You've cracked the important tasks. Don't worry is a pastime isn't going well - They are normally in a cycle and especially so after a lay off.
Keep pecking away and it will all come back.

Everyone gets rusty after time off track.. slow it down and build your pace back up, maybe get a little training from an instructor, I've done hundreds of track days on my motorbikes and still have some where i cant string consistent laps together and feel like a beginner

Arrogance like that is what is bad about Motorsport....always some know all who hasn't a clue thinks they do have. If they're so good why aren't they getting paid to drive for a team. :wkr:

I'll be expecting that same this season Byron. It's been 3 seasons for me since my last track. It's all about the seat time. I'll be going out there as a newbie, green a hell behind the ears. No Biggie mate, it ain't a race. Pace yourself, you'll be back to your old rat bag self in no time ;)
For what it's worth man, bloody proud of you.

One thing I found Beedub, short shifting everywhere effectively means you're essentially driving a less powerful car, meaning when you've had some time away from driving on track you can effectively build back into it slowly, and concentrate on your lines and braking points etc, rather than clinging on for dear life and getting it all crossed up.

Don't be disheartened mate, you'll get back into the swing easily enough, don't put pressure on yourself and go out there to have some fun!

Mate from the small amount I know of you, you’ve been through a great amount recently. They say the biggest battle is with yourself but take it from us, you’ll come through!

The other thing I am 100% sure of is sometimes when you try your hardest, it goes wrong. Then when you give less of a f**k it all comes good.

Had the same thing on my regular bike track days.
First track day after a long break, felt rusty and confidence down.
takes a while to rebuild the trust in the tyres and general feel for it.
You dont forget , just need to rebuild the confidence.....

Thanks buddy! ive gotten over it now, lol.... i was just having a abit of the bad day with it, however now its over and done, i can look back and say i thoroughly enjoyed the day..... Im going to book a donny evening track session next, something abit bigger so i can build up slowly. The tighter technical stuff is alittle too difficult at the moment, HOWEVER i can say the car feels darn right rude, absolutely unreal and im CERTAIN i can feel a tangible difference loosing the stock seats, but then again... that may be the butt dyno over egging it.
