First Official Pic of new Cayman

It is not about the performance as I would still prefer an older 911 to a newer and faster Cayman or Boxster.

To me it is about the looks, the culture, the following and everything else of the 911, the special thing about it.

It is like comparing a fast BMW 3 series (non M) to a Z4, it just is not "special".

:drools: - how exactly do I withdraw funds from my pension scheme?

Anyone winning the lottery - id like the White S please :)

Not bad, the 2nd white car 3/4 front pic heavily resembles the panamera, not necessarily a bad thing. I'd have to agree that for this version pair the boxster is better looking :)

+1 , this is a bit of a letdown after the boxter... Looks a bit flabby to me

...No wonder the 991 is their most profitable car!
I read a few years back an article which stated that the nett production cost of making the entry level Boxster was only marginally less than making a 911 Turbo. Obviously this was just pure production and not taking into account any R&D or marketing etc.

Less picky then guiseley...i would have cayman or s, and i think it looks good in most colours....the arse is flabby but i like it

Love it. Fingers crossed for factory standard LSD this time. Could tempt me.
...They have little rear seats too right?

Yes I seem to recall hearing that too Mike.

More details here (including pricing) on Pistonheads http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=26736

Turns out it's got 325hp in 'S' form which is 10 more than the Boxster S and only 24 down on the 991 Carrera. It also weighs 1340kg so it will be quick.

I get your point point and true its not a 911 and all its special traits. But ask yourself this how lmany manufacturers have a 300bhp manual mid engined RWD coupe that looks good out there? It is special for sure, and a darn sight better built and engineered than any BMW Z if the old one is anything to go by.

What is funny is how they just make all Cayman models a few bhp more than the Boxter but a few bhp less than the 911's.

I hated the cars looks which stopped me buying it now though... but I just love the Z too much and would not swap it for even a better car

I love the new boxter, and was almost set to start my boxter fund.. But this is stunning... Certainly will own one in a few years.

I prefer the boxster. This is too panemaramini for me.

And a pretend rear strut brace?? Thats just not very porsche. :(

I am biased, but it is beautiful.

I don't think it is an improvement on the previous model, just a style change.

Both models of Cayman are simply beautiful in my eyes.

I have to say though, the interior is streets ahead of mine, and would swap it tomorrow if I could

The S fitted with PDK does the 60 sprint in 4.7 seconds........

So I agree, there are only two reasons to buy a 911, the extra 2 seats and I can afford the extra cost. But your not getting a better car.

We agree!

Mid engine is better.

Stunning car.

But when you compare this to the looks of something like this for the same money ...

The trouble is PVR, my brain looks at that big bulbous backside and knows that's where the engine is, which is completely the wrong place for a sports car, cheap peoples car yes, sports car no.

and before Tom or anyone else says that they handle superbly, I don't disagree per se, my argument is that if you were going to design a sports car from a clean sheet of paper that handles sublimely without trickery you would put the engine in between the front and rear wheels.......hence the Boxster, Cayman, Carrera GT and the new 918.

The only reason the 911 remains this way is tradition and not wanting to kill its most profitable car.

I was not even thinking technology here, I was very superficial here and just went for the looks 8)

I have never driven one, so have no idea if I would like it from that point. Just lust ...
