First Subtle Mod - I hope :D

Hi Everyone, been a little busy applying some Lamin-x film to the nose and rear :thumb:

As a common problem on the 4's, the fog lights were misty and at £150 plus vat each i thought of a different way to get rid of the mistyness seeing as they work perfectly alright and used Gunsmoke to cover them.

I also applied the lightest tint to the rear lights, just to take away the starey brightness of the red using 6% tint and same on headlights.

Here is the result:

Where did you get the laminex from? I want to sort my front lights but it seems abit pricey.
I laminex'd my rear lights red though

I do like what you've done with the rear lights. I thought about lightly tinting mine with spray but I didn't think it would work, until now!

Looks good, but why not fix the misting in the fogs. They only need removing, drying and the bulbs refitting. Worst case add a bit of silicone grease around the H7 bulbs seals. Left it will just rot the insides out.

Be interesting to see if you get a fail or advisory for the headlight tint, although I've no idea how much a 6% affects things

Fails:
5.
An obligatory headlamp:
a.
....inoperative, excessively damaged or deteriorated or has a product on the lens or light source so that the light output is well below that required to illuminate the road ahead

b.
.... an obligatory headlamp shows light that is not substantially white or yellow

Thanks everyone - I bought the Lamin-x from the states, delivered in a week, a bit pricey but much less than the alternative and is pre-cut for you :D and I didn't trust myself to use the spray evenly enough.

I did the same to my Z3 a couple of years ago and very pleased with the results, and were still as good as the day I put them on when I sold him a few months back. They didn't fade in the sun either.

It probably took me half an hour once I had set my stall out :D but watched the video 3 or 4 times to get it clear in my head what to do before I started. If you don't get the film lined up properly, just peel it back to a point you are happy with and re-apply, or take the whole thing off and start again :o everything you need to apply with, is in the package you receive.

I am very pleased with the result - headlights now have that clear glare taken away, fog-lights no longer look ghastly and rears have the bright red toned down against the midnight blue paintwork. I would have gone darker on the rears but I know the 6% tint will pass the mot fine.

He now looks a bit mean :D just how I wanted.

Yes I agree about the fog lights, but I was ordering tint for the headlights and tail lights anyway so added them as a temporary fix.

I had read a few posts on here which suggested what you have said but which have not been successful so thought I would look out for some to replace when I can find some.

My Z3 passed 3 mots with the same tints on so I have no reason to think they will fail on the Z4 - hopefully! at least you can just warm them up and take them off with no damage to the lights if necessary.

Sounds like you're all set and good then

Cool, although the headlights on the Z4 are notoriously dim so I would have thought with a 6% tint you may as well not bother putting the buggers on

 quite agree!

Thanks Guys, 6% isn't much at all, one of the photos shows one done and one not, just enough to soften the appearance. Will be changing the bulbs next buts Its rare that I go out at night and if I do, I usually take my other toy :D

I do like the look of this laminex stuff. I think I'm going to clean the spray off of mine and redo them with this stuff! Thanks for pushing me over the edge!!

Ive got some for my audi tail lights which I will put on this weekend, but I don't think anyone on here would like to see them :D

Gunsmoke option says 12%?

Did you go for tint instead?

Hiya, I used Tint 6% on the headlights and tail lights and Gunsmoke 12% on fogs, sorry should have been a bit more clear.

Just won a set of knackered fogs on eBay that I'm going to try and refurb. I can't imagine it will be perfect but I've bought a few sheets of tinting film to cover them too. Love the look!

I like them... I have wanted to tint my rear lights for years!

May have to give this laminex a go.

Did you remove the rear lights to fit them?

Hiya, I tried a sheet of tint film ages ago on my Z3 but found it very difficult to manouver over the area and awkward to try and get it to stick, and not easy to get the shape right so after a good search I had found the Lamin-x. It comes pre-cut to the shape of your lights which you apply insitu. I got my self a cuppa, a cushion and plenty of time to do it. Don't rush it if you get some and you will be pleased with the result.

I know I have said before that its quite expensive but in comparison to a set of lights its nothing and it will protect the lights against any scuffs.
