First Mod to my Z4

I'm new to the board and learning a lot just by reading posts, but thought the first mod I made might interest someone.

I have a reg plate with fewer letters than standard and the large amount of white space looked odd, so I had a narrower reg plate made up (100% legal spacing, etc.)

It was an easy job to then remove the mounting cut a centre section out, then use a piece of the spare to bond to the rear with a bumper repair adhesive. The reduced frame perfectly fits the front profile.

End result is a narrower plate that seems to suit the front better

All I need to do when I get time is fix the 2 holes each side and it's complete...

Looks like an interesting mod especially once the holes are sorted.

Have you got any more pics from further back please?

Sure - I'll take some next time she's out - and yep I hate holes too...

This weekends project has been to refrofit Xenons to my X5, but that's another story

OK nice to see it from further back. Once you get your front lights sorted too, it'll look really good. This pic nicked from "somewhere else" (sorry G!) - what a difference the clear lights make.

Nice looking bumper cover. Which model/version is that from?

As for the ligths - a mod I'll do for sure. I still have to decide if tp go for the 2005 clear lights as the easy option of if to retrofit the later bi-xenon is that difficult.

If the profile of the lights is identical then I can't see the problem in wiring in some ballasts and assuming it has the same issues of lower current draw and tripping 'check lowbeam' warning then adding an appropriate box of electronics??

Thoughts??

The front bumper is part of the OEM aerokit - front, rear, sideskirts -

Have you got xenons now, looks like you do?

You've done a lot of mods in such a short period of time! Congrats!

My that's an old mod - really was the first - Almost forgot it.
Since then the whole front end has gone, clear lights and a lot more too.

Any pics :D have thought about removing the plate mount all together then fitting a cropped plate to the actual bumper like the car above but without the chrome surround but it may get the attention of our boys in blue anyone know of this being done on a UK car

I have no pics of the mod. It was so simple that doesn't warrrant them. I simply took the base plate, calculated the width of the reduced size (but legal) plate and chopped a few inches out of the middle. I plastic welded the 2 pieces together using the excess as a strengthener. Later when I did the facelift I had to shave the lower edge to a new profile.

In terms of fastening direct to the bumper I see no issues so long as it's not too far off vertical.

Sorry i meant pics of the new mods you have carried out and regarding the plate as you say its being too far off the vertical they may not like cameras may not pick up the plate will have a play around and see.

I absolutely love the look of the clear lights... but I am definitely not brave enough to attempt it!

I got an enormous complement today - I was parked outside my daughters school and behind me a nice Z3. I had the AE's on as it was drab...

Firstly as the various lads walked by I got a string of 'nice car' comments, but the real one was the group of my daughters friends who said to her that 'your dad's car makes the other one look poxy....'

Tweed - I was up in Manchester at the weekend - what a fantastic City centre these days

Awww man, if I'd known I could've offered you a cuppa and a biscuit while you sorted my lights for me ;)

I've only been here a few years, I was really surprised how good it's become; was totally expecting a wretched hive of scum and villainy... happy I was wrong :)
