First Look At 09 & Comparson Pics

The front lights are horrendous.

The back is just a smaller 6 series.

A mish mash of cars for me that. Will still be interested to see in the flesh, as always dislike revised BMW's when they are released only to love them 6 months later.

I'm going to look at the launch tomorrow. Interesting that the new Z4 sort of makes our Z4's look a bit "kit-car-sportscar" like a TVR does. Nothing wrong with that though! Not a lot in it at the front, but the rear of the new one doesn't do it for me!

Out of the 2 so far, I'd rather have the V8 M3 convertible if I was to have a convertible.

So I missed our launch Thursday (but made up for it with a 400 mile round trip in the Zed :)

Finally saw and sat in one today. OK I had my doubts but I love it. Lines look better in the flesh that in the images. The inside is well made and in theirs had extended leather. Forget the nitpicking it looks good.

The demo is Sterling Grey (equiv.) and red leather so I have a direct car to car comparison and it's a nice evolution.

Problems - the boot is useless and the hardtop is just that - no ragtopp. The red leather looks faded and washed out

Would I buy it - NO. Really the price. a weedy 23i with some extras is £37,000, no ragtopp and no bootspace.

It makes the 2 '09 plate carbon black 3.0Si at £26k and £27k now pushed aside ot look like used cars, look really good value :)

But will you buy a second-hand one in 1 or 2 years time? I will.

That's a decision for then, by which time I'll be 4 years into this Zed and may have changed my position based upon prices, needs, etc., but I don't think so.

Both BMW UK and dealers are still very optimistic about the new Z4. My local dealer refuses to give any discount on it. I don't think the new Z4 will get many customers from SLK and Boxster/Cayman, and only small percentage of E85 owners like E89. Porsche owners do not think E89 is really driver car, SLK owners may not switch brand. When summer comes and over this year (worst year since 1930), I expect to see better deal on E89.

The new Z4 was launched in Norway today, and I visited my dealer to have a look :)

The car they presented was a black sDrive 23i automatic. Total impression was good, and as said by others in this thread, it looked better in real life than on photos. Liked the interior, and the start/stop button & gear paddles gave a sporty feeling. The 8.8” head up display was nice, and the 3D GPS map was magnificent. However, the idrive needed a lot of attention when operated.

Before my present Z4, I had a Z3. Must say that it struck me that the new Z4 have inherited some design elements from Z3. Especially the more aggressive headlights, the bonnet forming a part of the wheel arc and the geometry behind the side flash indicator. When seen from behind, it looks “softer” than the old Z4. But the backlights design and emitted light was very nice.

Will this car be the successor of my present Z4? Most probably… in two to three years when the “children’s disease” of this model is removed and some good objects are available in the second hand market. Me (and my valet) just pray that I have the patience to wait that long... :driving:

Agree it looks better in the flesh than in the photos. Our current zed is our main car and as such needs to be moderately practical, given the number of comprises asked of the new model not sure I'll be buying the new one in the near future...
