Adamski

So, signed up for PH today. Someone has the name Adamski already :x

Anyhoo, went for another name. 4damski. Dead original, I know :? :D

Went to post a picture of the zed in the BMW section, bu was told:

"Forum not accepting posts from new members due to persistent abuse.
We hope you come back later" :telloff:

This has really put me off. Is this normal, should I go back, or stop wasting my time and give up on the site?

I find Pistonheads a little strange, perhaps its a bit too popular, but some of the banter is pathetic and seems to be made by people that clearly arent petrolheads!

Flip side is I've found the local Yorkshire forum has some good events and decent banter. Articles often worth reading too.

I've been on Pistonheads for over 10 years with the same username, and hide the forums I'm not interested in.

Just like any forum you get tossers, trolls, spelling & grammar police, and those whose sole purpose in life is to critique the for sale adverts.

The more senior members do get access to free premium ads and more/better posting options, but newbies re restricted to which forums they can initially post in due to the number of newbies registering just to troll or promote their wares.

There are also a fair number of 'in jokes' that just go over the heads of some of the less senior members, and then starts to annoy them when others join in on the joke - all a bit immature really, but you can read forums without registering so you can't really say you don't know what you were letting yourself in for.

If you don't have time to spend 2 hours a day just 'catching up', then don't join :P

Also, don't worry if it seems sssssssllllloooooowwwwww at times, as it's handling a huge amount of traffic and Haymarket who now own it don't like spending - just blame the hamsters.

Only joined p'heads to sell cars .. joined the real forums of associated cars to enjoy them. Too many boy racers on forums like p'heads and retro rides, puts me way off them!

only read pistonheads for reviews and "cars for sale"..... their forum has too many "flamings" going on for my liking

Post there from time to time, not my favorite forum online but it's got a wide range of forum sections for pretty much whatever car you might own. Even met a few fellow Cypriots there with pretty interesting rides.

That sums it up pretty well! I've been a member (and occasional poster) for quite a few years now and can't be arsed with a lot of the banter and in-jokes - just make the forum live up to geeky internet stereotypes IMO. But it's a great place for banter at times and an excellent distraction from work!

Adam - check out the Scotland forum. There's a lot of in-jokes but apart from that it's good for meets and runs. Pace on runs is manic at times (suits you then ) but they welcome everyone - as long as you're not in a Micra...

Previous PH meets I've attended:

Err, somewhere just north of Tyndrum...

Some interesting cars:

What on earth is that car in the last photo?
Kit car?

I browse PH for the games and BMW sections. I originaly used the site just for news and the classifieds.
It's quite a good place to find people to race with in Forza, which is always best with a known group.

Looks a bit like a Datsun. Am sure the owner would be offended if he read that though. :)

I used to read and post on PH a lot more but lost interest. There's a bit of a mob mentality onthere at times, you read threads were if someone dares not conform they get shouted down, and then others join in like the weak but noisy best mates of a school boy bully. (The balls to the knob as Vinnie Jones would say...). It used to be better for good debate where you could have two differing opinions and be allowed it.

ETA... I agree that there's in jokes. Usually they were funny once or twice, but once they've been constantly repeated for (literally) a few years they get a bit crap

Was on it for years then left it becuase it frankly got too tedious.

The final straw was asking for business advice in the appropriate section to which pretty much all the replies were along the lines of "I'm considerably richer than yow, considerably cleverer than yow, and yow cannot succeed in business because yow are not as great as me. Now run along and don't trouble the big boys".

I now run a very profitable business.

It's a Henson M30 - more info in my original thread from the meet: http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=8601&p=130607&hilit=henson#p130606. Based around an old Granada/Cortina IIRC. Was fitted with a 2.0 at the time but now I believe has a HUGE V8 with some sort of charger sticking out through the bonnet...

Well you confrimed what I thought, form reading some of the threads in the past. Me thinks I give it a miss....

O yeah my 666th Post... oooooo

my highest post count with a forum yet .... i think maybe it was the Alfa forum.. note to self stop rambling

am on PH, its pretty good i rather like it.

yes there are alot of injokes, spelling police, losers, etc etc but considering the size of the place it is expected. Its not got the knowledge etc that this place has on Z4's but it is a general good car form and the meets are good too, even though the driving is a little bit manic
