As some my have seen Mr Wilks sold his 35iS........to me as I collected it on Saturday.
Firstly to say was first time I had met Andy, what a pleasure it was to meet such a genuine helpful chap, I think my friend and I could have chattered for hours. The car is a credit to his careful selection and caring. Thankfully the payment process of online banking worked without any issues.
The drive back home was only the second time I have driven an E89, the first was several years ago.
The step up from an E85 feels more than the 4 years between their ages. As it my daily car it was the soft creature comforts that was driving my change. The E85 still looks the classic car it surely is becoming, were it a weekend only car I would have kept the one I had. (Now owned by another forum member).
The journey back to the midlands was dealt a mixture of rain showers and 50mph road work on the M6 that last for ever. Short way in stopped to splash some fuel in, zero’d the mpg counter. Time we cruised home I wasn’t expecting it to read 41 MPG !!!!! That is incredible.
The ride was great, softer than my E85 and my Focus RS, having a host toys was just like being in the wife’s 120D X-Drive. Sound from the pro audio, 14 speakers !!! WTF..... seems pretty good, not tweaked it yet either.
Engine sound track and the burble is great.
Now the wife’s 8 speed auto is superb gearbox, first impressions of the DCT seems okay at low speed/gears, nowhere near as smooth, but once on the roll seemed pretty seamless.
In normal mode which is all I used on the way how was a nice waft cruise, much like my E85 3.0i Auto pre face lift would do, that the Si wouldn’t as it was always eager and on it.
Sunday took it for a local spin, sport mode, nice little sharpening up... then thought, oh not tried shifter to the left.... holy moly what happened there
 car suddenly transforms into snarly angry monster. Now you get the full 340 horses, now it joined the my RS territory, well on a dry straight road. Very addictive, oh that mpg turned into 19 LOL ....
As i’ve read it doesn’t have the firmness or taught feel of the E85, and a mile from the RS, seems to have a little side to side wobble. Plenty of grip just a little “loose”.
Oh the boot is crap obviously.
Undecided if I’ll map it. Or do any mods, got sucked into that game on the RS
That said anyone tried Eibach anti roll bar kit ? And or power flex bushes.
Would like to change the mirror caps to black or carbon, perhaps also the chrome side flashes on the front wings.
First impressions it’s a great car, despite some saying a Boxster is “better” get one. Seems an over looked and underrated car, who’s performance is still right in the mix of the current hot cars, but it’s 9 years old !!!
The wife nicked it this evening and loved it.... that’s got to be a result in anyone’s book
