Well I have had my new Z a week now though not had much chance to use it to be fair. On way home from collecting it the tyre warning light came on and the traction control/DSC lit and remained on. A check of the tyre pressures showed one was down by 10psi and I am wondering if this might be responsible for the traction control light. I have noticed there was an issue with an intermittent fault with this illuminating early last year according to an invoice I found so time will tell. On the motorway with the top down and heater on full blast I did notice a slight notchiness around the straight ahead position. Now I have lubed all the steering joints but I did read something on a forum about heat from the foot well vents effecting the electric steering gubbins so again time will tell if this is a problem.
I cant get the CD changer to work though it loads the CDs, says on the display its checking and so on. Single disc works fine though! And the stupid plastic peg on the centre compartment lid is broken so light remains on until I lock the car. A fiddle about will sort it at some point though. Now talking knobs....mine turns from side to side a little which I find distracting. The part on the inside of the knob is not the size its meant to be and does not engage fully in the slot in the lever so its either a bit of glue or a new (and perhaps weightier) gear knob. I am reluctant to pay £50 so any recommendations anyone?
Driving impressions are good. Its a 2.5 which has enough torque but still likes to be revved. Feels very different to the old Z4 3 litre auto the wife had though which surprised me but plenty quick enough. The electric steering is very communicative which I like but the ride is very harsh on its run flats, much worse than my previous Boxster. Heated seats are very, well, heated! And the car heater is awesome in its output. Combined with having a glass rear window instead of brittle plastic it could be roof down all year!
