I got mine this morning from a fellow forum member and am looking forward to testing them. Do you guys just put them on for all winter for set months or just make the change when we are forecast ice/ snow conditions?
Winter tyres are not just for ice and snow. They are for cold weather as well. Summer performance tyres do not perform well in cold weather and especially cold wet weather. I put mine on mid Nov and remove them around the end of March.

I would add to that by saying that Bridgestone run flats have to be one of the worst cold weather performers - only once I took a previous zed out in light snow (mot time) and it was a nightmare.
I am well used to rear wheel drive. I've have had a few fast ( in their day) fords - but the zed on its run flats was a lock to lock drive home.

Yes a lot of people assume that as it's 4 wheel drive it will go anywhere if fact that's not the case . Tests have proven that a 2 wheel drive car with winters on can out perform some 4 wheel drives on summers . There is always going to be the cost v use argument and what if the weather isn't that bad , but I'm sure that if you need to use your car and it's bad weather it's a small price to pay.
I'm quite surprised that the insurance companies haven't jumped on this and started stipulating that if its bad weather winter tyres should be fitted or in an accident it would reduce your claim!.

So true. This video speaks volumes

I understand that they are for cold weather, the trouble is that we are experiencing such fluctuations in temperatures at the minute between 15 degrees down to 2 degrees. I understood winter tyres to " burn out" quicker and have adverse affects in warmer temperatures or is this not noticeable?

My Discovery 3 came with Standard Pirelli rubber and they were at the limit at 20k - Vredestein winter rubber was fitted ( that was the only type they did in the size req'd) now 23k later there's still 5mm or more tread !
Ok I know it's a different type of car and driven differently but it's nearly 3 tonnes so there's quite a load on them.
