"You have more chance winning the lottery than this", so I was told years ago. However, I took out insurance in case the unlikely situation would happen. Well, that is what insurance is for.

So for the last 10 years or so, I have paid my £300 insurance premium each year, year in, year out. Never had to claim, all was good.

"You have been selected for a random tax investigation".

The letter they sent is nasty, no manners and plain rude. You are almost accused before they even check, as they state things like "if you confess now, you get the maximum penalty discount". Uh - what are they on about?

So far, I have been incurring thousands in accountants fees, and as they are not finding anything, the questions are getting weirder and weirder. I even have to dig out car insurance certificates from 6 years ago - what is all that about ...

I am sure they will pick up that I claimed on my petrol receipt a sandwich in 2005 or so, we seemed to have gone to that level now as the accounts at header level are all ok of course (what else do I pay an accountant for).

I don't think it will be long before the Tax Man starts going into the finer details of smart phones which they can claim back 20% tax for unless you prove it is only used for business use.

I can see me being given back all the Blackberry's and PDA's and being asked for a Nokia 6210i instead
