Idiot me today reversed into a rock coming out of a space - I thought I was in reverse so the sensors should have kicked in, but maybe I had already switched to 1st and was letting gravity do its thing. Anyway - here are a couple of photos of the damage to my rear bumper.

What does everyone think? Suggestions welcome!!!

HAHA - wish I could do filler work and spraying! Not got them skillzzzz.
Practice!
Use an old bit of sheet metal or plastic and have a crack at it.
Watch some utube vids / wheeler dealers - god knows ed gets his filler out one in every 3 episodes. what does he say 'one pea to 4 parts filler or something...'
Get clued up and av a crack. go on, amaze us all with the results and u will gain some forum credibility...maybe :poke:

Most towns & cities have a man with a van who specialises in bumper repair, don't they? I know a very good one in Leicester - Peter Stevenson - who trades as 'Scuff Sorter'.

The advantage of a man like Peter doing the work is that, as his advertising says, 'It's as if it didn't happen', so, when he's done the 'magic repair', you don't keep sneaking a look to see if the job you did yourself is OK. You just forget about it.

I'd happily pay for that.

Certainly not a new bumper job, any decent body shop can sort that. I'm not keen on the dentmaster-esque repairs. I know the trade/auction houses etc love them because these localized repairs are cheap, quick and get stock moving but 2-3 years down the line they usually look terrible. I suppose OP it depends how much of a perfectionist you want to be and how good the rest of the car is.

All true. Any bumper repair by a good repairer, body shop or dent-master, depends on the stiffness of the area repaired. So, once the repaired area flexes, because it's too big to stay stiff, or is flexed by another bump nearby, the craze lines re-appear. In 2-3 years, this is likely to happen, of course. By then, however, we've usually bumped something else. :)

£200 for a smart repair is about right considering the damage. Chipsaway cost £168 to fix a scratch but the job is invisible and has a 5 year guarantee. Remember that price will include VAT and would take over 3 hours to fix. Don't even think about doing it yourself.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. I'm not attempting to do it myself as I'm not a professional and I want a professional job done.

I've found a local guy to do it for a little over £100 - he's got good reviews online so should be okay. Even if it only lasts a couple of years I can think about a full respray when I've got a bit more money...I've got other waaaaaaay too important mods to be doing than paying for a respray. :driving:
