First BMW, need advice

Hey everyone, I’m new here and just wanted to say hi. I’m from Poland and I’ve been thinking a lot about buying my first BMW. Always liked the brand, and I feel like it would finally be something I’ve wanted for a long time. I’ve been looking at a few models, like the E46 330i, F30 320i, and maybe the 1 Series M (not sure if it’s realis

I’m kinda stuck on which one would be the best for a first BMW, something that’s fun to drive but not too expensive to maintain. If anyone has experience with these models or suggestions for other ones, I’d really appreciate your advice. Also, if you know what’s a fair price in Poland for something in good condition, that would help a lot.

Just trying to learn more before I make a decision, thanks in adva

I sometimes read advice and look at reviews on websites like these. Maybe someone already has more real-world experience and can share it. Thank you in advance for any advice.

What's your budget? The three cars listed have a wide range of price points, especially the 1M.

Anywho... my personal thoughts, bmw were a lot more successful making straight sixes than inline 4s. Anything with a 3 litre engine should see you right. E46 330ci, e90 330i, e85 z4 3.0i... all good.

The e46 is getting on a bit now, but parts are cheap. Personally id have an e90 330i if you need 4 seats, or a e85 or e86 3.0i or si if you want a 2 seater.

Or waft along in an old 5 series or 7 series... options are endless, really need to narrow down what kinda car you want and the budget...

I hope the language differences haven't confused you?
This is a forum dedicated to the Z4 and you don't seem to be considering one as an option?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

As enuff-zed says this forum is dedicated to Z4s, so as I've had 3 of those if you don't need rear seats a 3 litre Z4 would be my choice for fun. My current Z4M is by far the most fun version, but doesn't meet your requirement for not being expensive to maintain.

Anyway I was so impressed by my first Z4 I bought an E46 325ti Compact as a daily driver and really enjoyed it. But then I decided I wanted an estate so I replaced it with an E91 325i which wasn't as much fun although it was way more refined. So after a year I replaced it with an E90 330i that is noticeably quicker although also refined and does most things really well but isn't great fun.

The problem with E46s now is most of them are suffering from rust which doesn't seem to be an issue with E9*s but I've not had anything as new as an F30. Although for me what makes BMWs special is a straight 6 so I wouldn't bother with a 320i anyway!

When you say 1 Series M I'm guessing you mean an M135i? If so they can suffer from expensive issues with injectors (like £2K for a new set) and High Pressure Fuel Pumps, although they do sound like fun.

If they were sold in Poland maybe an E81/88 130i or E82 125i might be fun. They have the same bulletproof N52 engine as facelift E85/86 Z4s and my E91 and E90.

No idea on prices in Poland though.

Yes, that was my mistake. I hadn't realised that we were talking about a particular BMW model. Thank you for correcting me and showing me that other models are also worth considering. My girlfriend was impressed by the Z4 she wants a convertible. She thinks it's romantic. :LOL:However, this means I'll have to exceed my budget, as it costs 115,000 zł (£23,701) in Poland.

What!!!! For an original E85? If that's the case I need to get into the export business. ;)
