first of all many thanks to the members that offered advice re products... secondly respect to anyone that does this for a living, I like to think that I'm in faily decent shape for my age but Im knackered after that and I didn't even get everything done :D

So order of play
1) 3m supa snowfoam
2) 2 bucket wash with noodle mitt, rinse and towel dry
3) Clayed with a G3 mitt and autoglym rapid detailer
4) machine polish with das 6 and chemical guys green hexlogic pad and sonax 04 06 compound
5) hand waxed with collinite 476s carnuba wax

around 5 and a half hours total, and as I say this is my 1st attempt so far from perfect but I'm quite happy with how its looking. Was too knackered to get into cleaning the wheels so they will wait for another day, also I really need to get at cleaning and treating the soft top as its a bit filthy.
I know I cheated a bit with the claying but that mitt seemed to have good reviews and I'm all for making life a bit easier on a cold winters day and it certainly seemed to lift plenty of crap out of the paint.
The collinite wax was lovely to work with too very easy on easy off and a very nice finish.

Obligatory pics, from my phone so apologies for the quality and shitty light

Ain't that snow foam, car looks good

We're a bit farther ooooop norf than Bucks  sleet/snow on the ground when i got up this morning

I know, but Mr T said he used snow foam to clean the car and that stuff hangs around. Have you had any real snow by the way :)

Looks great and not the ideal conditions to do it, I'd have thought.

I bought a DA nearly two years ago and it is still unused!

A full decon and machine polish does take time but how chuffed are you with the results as it looks lovely.

After the advice, how did you find the DAS6? It's not has difficult as you first thought I bet.

It's the time taken to do a good job that bust's your balls. Needless to say, prepping your paint as you have will give the Colli a nice prepped surface to adhere to and will prolong it's longevity.

Well done buddy.
Unfortunately, you'll wanna keep it looking like that all the time and that's when the detailing bug will bite and take hold of you!!

Looking good, I am going to buy a DA polisher this weekend, just trying to decide on which one! Seeing as the body shop have quoted me £200 for a machine polish on the Zed when it goes in for the bodywork repairs, I might as well buy my own and do all the cars & van!

Would appreciate your comments on the machine polishing for the first attempt.

Getting a lone of a one and any tips no doubt would be appreciated by many.

everyone told me to watch the junkman2000 vids on youtube... the guy does go on a bit but worth persevering as he does cover the basics very well and I pretty much followed his techniques as best i could... take your time... let the machine do the work, go easy on the products applied to the pads... less is more so to speak, it all becomes quite intuitive once you get going and hav done a few passes with the machine
