Nervously sat at autoglass while new screen being fitted, twiddling thumbs so thought would say hi!

"is there currently any damage to your car"...nope and there won't be either...

'i don't want any gunk or filler'..."don't worry sir these screens normally go in easily and look just the same." hmmmm

Btw does anybody use any of the forum apps on iPhone? Any recommendations?
 
Yep, tapatalk is good and i use it a lot for the 4+ forums i feed into - only downside is the steep £1.50 for it on the iPhone
 
I used autoglass and they took 2 attempts to fit it. the first job was Sh1t to say the least.

when i was cleaning the car the other week i notices a couple of black spots on the dash. im guessing its their bonding agent but i dont know if i can do anything about it
 
I read your posts previously about autoglass Rudd_2002, hence my trepidation - when i booked it in I said I wanted an experienced technician who had done these cars before - seems to be paid off as to be fair they seem to have done an ok job.

Good fit around outside with no gunk/filler - only thing i have noticed is a slight bowing of the trim down the side on the drivers side which needs a clean now and a slightly bigger gap between dash and screen at the bottom, but that should bed in a bit more with time. Overall could have been a lot worse and could not justify the £645 that dealer wanted compared to £75 to direct line.

The panel that covers the bottom of the screen is a bugger for warping once removed, BMW have changed mine twice as every time they remove it it never goes back properly and comes away at the edges.

I cant see how you can have a bigger gap between the dash and the screen though, and I cant see how it can bed in either as the screen is bonded and cured for 2 hours (I believe due to 2 airbags) before driving. Unless you mean the black outline is at a different height.
 
Autoglass not for me - never done one of these before, BMWs are always difficult. AND after fitting - it will be OK after bedding in, sure it will be OK in a few days, never fit the same as original, nothing I can do about the gap, can never achieve a complete seal, sorry about the scratch/dent/stain.... etc etc. All quotes from the Autoglass fitters instruction manual which they have to learn during their 30 minute training course!

I wouldn't have used the given a choice but direct line would not pay for BMW and I dont have that sort of money to spend on a windscreen...only a poor doc remember :driving:

As for the gap i cant work i out either but unless you go looking you cant tell anyway
 
I have been nurturing a couple of small cracks in a non-critical part of the screen for the last two years as I can't face the Autoglass B##ll##cks. I remember using them when I had an Alfa 156 and the damm screen cracked in exactly the same place after three months. Found on an Alfa forum it was due to poor fitting
