Fingerprints on the paintwork

Can anyone suggest a way of getting rid of some stubborn finger marks from my door please? I tried a few cleansers but no success. They’ve been there since I bought the car 2 years ago.

Were they on the car when you bought it? Or did they appear afterwards? I ask because the door might've been painted and they might be underneath the clearcoat. If that's the case - you won't get rid of them without sanding through the clearcoat.

Recently had a dent taken out the drivers door of our Skoda and the guy left all his hand prints all over it . Being a black car , like the Zed and was cooking hot, they wouldnt wash out or any other forms of spray detail sprays or chemicals would move it. I have had to machine it out with a medium compound cut and refine it down. Personally T cut is 'very' aggressive and using a bit of cloth and T cut could marr other parts of the surrounding areas. I would find a detailer, if that's not your thing and let him look at what is best to remove the marks.

They were there when I bought it. It’s not just the drivers door although that is the worst. It’s also on the passenger door and the boot.

Thanks. I think I’ll find a detailer. Does anyone know a good one in Cheshire?

It's probably sun cream print from someone's hand on your door and will machine polish out easily with a cutting compound, unless it is under the lacquer as suggested earlier and know amount of machining will get rid of it.

Used to see this regularly when I worked in valeting. It is usually caused by 'foundation' make-up from ladies hands. They slap on the old war paint then touch their face or scratch their nose with their fingers which is then transferred onto paintwork, door pillar trims and door handles, boot lid, interior door panels and pull handle, and worst of all on indicator stalks, gear levers and handbrake leather. It will usually polish or compound out no problem from the paintwork. A good APC or interior cleaner will remove it from any interior trim

Just been to Cheshire Car Care near knutsford. He says it looks like foundation make-up and he would need to machine it out. He also offered something called GTECHNIQ paint protection. Has anyone else had this and do you think it’s a good option?
