Fine scratch removal??

I've recently clayed the car, waxed and finished of with a polish. The car was cleaned first, then again between claying and waxing. In the normal daylight, the car looks great, but when in the garage under the flourescent tube, you can see loads of fine scratches, and not just swirls, some of them are straight. :?
The scratches don't go to the bare metal as when you look at them directly from above, they appear the same colour as the car. Not sure on what to do next. A bit new to all this claying stuff.

I have used all Meguiares products.


Any thoughts on how to remove them would be appreciated.
 
I have a similar thing on my body work - hardly noticeable and very fine but - as the phrase often goes - "they will just polish out" - but with what? :D
 
look for some posts on detailing. loads of people get their cars done and the results are fantastic.

was considering it myself but i cant find anyone up near newcastle to do it
 
Unless they are really deep, they are just in the clearcoat on top of the paint. I've found two ways of dealing with those fine scratches.

One is to use an abrasive polish to actually grind off the clearcoat down to below the bottom of the scratch. The problem with this is that just about every time that you wash the car you'll be making more fine scratches and eventually you'll polish your way right through the clearcoat into the paint.

The second is to use a product like Zaino (sorry for the advert) which is designed to fill in the scratches.

I suppose that the third way of dealing with them is, as suggested above, turn off the light and enjoy the drive. 95% of people don't even look for the fine scratches that are the result of actually using your car. Drive it and enjoy! :D

I am in the same boat. The micro scratches and swirls are a pain. I notice them now but noone else seams to.

I have bought myself a polishing machine after reading the threads over at detailingworld. I still have a lot of practice to go after having an attempt at the weekend. I do intend to perfect it but for the time being the BMW paint/clearcoat is so tough that I didnt get very far.

After foaming, washing, claying, washing again, machine polishing attempted on bonnet, polishing the whole car by hand, waxing whole car and sorting the wheels I was knackered and gave up. The car looks stunning after this anway and its only up close and under the right light that you can see marks.

I think one day a professional detailer will be called to do a proper correction but that can wait. 9 times out of 10 I am sure you only have to make the alloys shiny and the cars look great anyway :wink:
 
I have bought myself a DA polisher but to be honest it would be a major ball-ache to take out all the fine swirls and scratches that you see in the sun/flourescent lighting with it. I will pay the ££££ to have it done professionally eventually.

I use Auto Glym Super resin polish to fill the micro scratches, it's a good product. Applied by machine or by hand. Then a good wax to finish.
