Finding Out Your Cars History?

The car I have bought has only ever been serviced at the same main BMW dealer since it was bought.

I wanted a print off of all the work/recalls/repairs that had been done to it....but apparently BMW will not provide this information due to data protection laws.

Has anyone else found this or has anyone been able to get information on their car before they owned it?

Had no problems at Mercedes getting a very comprehensive history report on my old E class, every recall/replacement/service while it was at any official Mercedes dealership.

Not sure about service record from BMW but you can get a free complete MOT history including advisories from the DVLA website - all you need is the Registration number and the number on the vehicle registration document - useful to verify mileage.

Spookily when I saw the Documents for the MR I recognised the previous owners name straight away. It was my Dentist. I quick call and found out more than the paper work could tell me. Always paper work first though. :wink:

One thing he didn’t know about was the immobilizer. I rang the garage where the car was originally sold. Rang three immobiliser companies, no history for one. Not a problem though, a contractor found and removed the old one after I paid £350 + licence for a new one.
