Finally seen one in person in the UK!!

I can imagine the design boffins at Mercedes, Audi & Porsche are rolling on the floor clutching their sides right now :(
Will be "interesting" to see how many units they shift in UK before it gets a restyle

Just doesn't tickle my tits I'm afraid!

Everytime I look at my e89 I think its a wicked looking car, and I'm sure e85 owners feel the same, but this new one doesn't excite me. The rear end looks wrong and personally I don't like the soft top.

My MOT due a week Saturday, so will be interesting to see if they have one to look at. Obviously, I won't say no to a butchers!

However, when the new 1'er was released (F20 I think) people hated the design, but nowadays people don't complain.

Is it just me or is the M and the 40i not on the level?
Unless that is a demonstrator I think I would be a bit pissed if the dealer allowed people in and around my new car.

I think it must be a demonstrator as customer cars have not yet arrived in the UK. In fact I am hearing that there is some delay to all UK bound customer Z4's but I don't know the reason for this yet.

Just a demonstrator

I’m sat in Dick Lovett, Bristol, just been for a wander and they have three, two in red and an M40 in white. The red is quite dark and doesn’t do anything for the car especially with the black touches in the M sport plus, but the M40 looks gorgeous. The rear end looks really good, low and wide, the side profile is good too, just the front end lets the side down a bit.

Went into Porsche next door and had my first sit in a 918 Boxster, and was really impressed. So do I go for a turbo charged 3.0 straight six or a turbo charged 2.0 flat four as there about the same price?

The straight 6 wins for me any day of the week but I am a BMW fan

Perhaps its the soft top that is the issue? It makes the upper half look narrow which in turn makes the bodywork itself look bigger and bulkier?

Perhaps they are waiting until they get enough orders to fill a transporter lorry

A new Boxster 981 V new G29 z4 are similar price & you are unsure which one to go for :?
It wouldn't even be a question i would need answering by myself let alone asking others but If you are renting ££ per month as opposed to buying it with your hard earned cash then go with the one you would like to drive for 2/3 years then hand back & look for the next experience .
I certainly wouldn't imagine potential G29ers will actually commit their own funds to purchase  that would be plain silly

Yep, the straight six is a tempting proposition, but the engine is only one part in a sports car, what about handling and looks

I think you mean a 718 Sars, anyway, the problem comes when adding options to the Porsche, the M40i comes in at 55k fully, and I mean fully, loaded. A base 2.0 718 is approx 47k but awfully short on kit. If you spec pro seats plus, which are still manual adjusting bar tilt, and a must as the base seats are frankly woeful in that they have next to zero bolster support, very narrow shoulders, then add cruise, or adaptive cruise, BOSE as a minimum, Burmester available @ 2.8k, PDK if you want auto, PASM for adjustable struts, heated steering wheel, sports Chrono for the sport, sport plus, individual settings, torque vectoring if you want to sling it round the twisties, PDLS+ for adaptive headlights, seat heating, seat cooling is available with leather, 19 or 20” wheels then etc, to match the spec of the Zed you’re well into the high 60 k Mark, not far off 70. Both cars perform about the same but I’ll wager the Boxster still kills the Zed on balance but a hefty price tag to match it for kit. Imho plumb for the Zed if you don’t want to go silly money as a base 718 will have low resale potential. I’ve been speccing a base 718 and with all the kit I’d want it’s too close to the GTS, 8k off, makes the base car not worth it. Same spec on an S is actually more than the GTS. Admittedly that’s with lots of options ticked but even so.....Check out the Porsche configurator and compare, I really do think the Zed is the better bet unless you’re happy to get to near 70k for kit and resale value.

So in a nutshell the Porsche is at least 15k more for similar spec. A fairly base spec 718 will be hard to move on, not enough kit, compared to a fully loaded M40i for same money which surely will hold value better.

An M40i will be much like a Z4 35is when it comes to holding value..

Or not as the case might be.....Its ugly and not a bone fide M car....

A 718 is the new kid on the block and it totally depends on what you want out of a car.. Whistles and bells or driving experience with manual box, minimal toys and superb handling??

Out of the 2 i would go for 718,not even a contest...

But i wouldnt buy one quite yet... Porsche a reportedly going back to flat 6 in the 718,and the 4 banger is finished,so will see if that pans out..

Personally i cant see many putting money in the M40i.... It will be low volume seller and isnt a ground breaker at anything, and its reception is cool at best.

My prediction is that it will do what the M4 did and shed 50% of its value in 3 years.....

Time will tell..
