Finally on!

Hey Folks

Been looking at the posts here and finally got myself registered on the site! Already had input from some folks here that are on other z4 forums and FB groups so thanks again.

I have just bought a 2010 E89 3.0si auto in deepsea blue. Mechanically good and sounds like classic bmw 6 cylinders should! Needs a bit of cosmetic work as previous owner which is my neighbour seemed to have issues with parking etc :D Will try to get her looking good again!

First mod - Followed the Mr12 Volt MMI from Dave on his YouTube posts! Thanks, really well detailed and prob stopped me from making the mistake of buying another aliexpress version!

Lighter easy mod - replaced the side indicators to the LCI blades.

Hopefully some more mods on the way but nothing out, just wanting to have OEM upgrades!

Like the alloys, really suit it and the car is a great colour combination. Looks good, enjoy it

Thanks Zed, as you can see in the pics, a bit battle scarred on the bumper paintwork but will be sorted all in good time!

How is the G29? Do you have both E89 and G29 Zs?

Col

No, his wife will only let him have one stupid car at a time

Welcome, and enjoy your new Zed

His wife must know my wife! :D

Thanks and thanks all for the warm welcome to this forum!!

Andy - are you tempted by the Handschalter yet?

Hi Col, no I had the E89 for about 8+ years, it was/still is a brilliant car (another forum member owns it now), the G29 is a slightly different beastie (lots more toys and gizmos), but sometimes I still miss the E89.

Andy she is such a hypocrite! I heard her telling a friend to go out and buy what ever she wants (new car) and not to worry about what her husband thinks... the grief my poor old Z4's have endured over the years, the day the G29 was delivered, she walked up the drive and didn't even give it a glance or a mention! :headbang:

Welcome to the forum with your e89, it’s a lovely colour combination, the Mr12volt is one of the best mods Ive done to mine, which audio system does it have? That may well be your next upgrade 😁

Thanks Chippie. It almost looks like the launch brochure car except its not a 35i and it has beige kansas leather. I have just bought the ivory white interior (yes, I have a problem as love modding my car but don't have a clue  ) and will attempt to fit that. It is going from manual to electric seats as well.....

Re audio, It has the SA677 audio system though I have to say how unimpressed I am. I had the hk on my previous F87 and that was miles better. Also doesnt help that the wifes car has B&W so makes this one sound very low rent. You guys know better but apparently this is the one that's also more expensive to upgrade because of the MOST F/O system in place. Will look into changing the front door speakers whilst I do the interior upgrade.

Thanks mate, I do personally prefer the look of the e85/86 but this one came up in my neighbourhood so landed up buying it.

If you aren’t happy with the 677 then yes it’s a big expense job to upgrade, I presume you have read Peter’s (B21’s) posts regarding the upgrade from his 677 system?

Cost wise it’s a little more to upgrade as you have to tackle the audio feed via the MOST output..there are some DSP/smp suppliers that integrate the MOST interface into their amps..I don’t have any experience…

What you’ll find is that adding decent aftermarket speakers to the existing amp has the issue of not enough drive to power them well..especially roof down at any pace..plus due to different characteristics they tend to sound ‘bright’ as the DSP isn’t tailored for them..

Good luck on your journey

Thanks Chippie/B21!

Yes, was reading your/ B21s posts. I have a feeling I am going to be spending some money on some speakers and then land up upgrading the whole system for a lot more! Although, I am enjoying this as a project car. Gets me distracted from my normal 9 to 5.....

Splendid…we like disproportionate expenditure in pursuit of perfection! :tumbleweed:
