Finally Man'd up and did my Tax Return...

Hey that's cutting it fine :D

I stopped being a company director 5 years ago, every year I tell them that I'm not and every year I get a tax return to do :poke:

Ps did mine in September :P

I still have to do mine... Thought I'd escaped, but after a few years they're back

I'd stopped doing them as they said I didn't need to. Then out of the blue came a "you owe us £8000" mail which caused no end of grey hair. After going through it with them, they'd screwed up, my company had screwed up, some other stuff I could have claimed for but didn't know about was taken into account for the same period and they ended up refunding me!

They're now slowly clawing it back and I have to do returns every year again :headbang:

It's just such a pain in the ass. My household filing is sh1t, so it takes me ages to find all the information I need. Best start pulling it together I suppose

Have to do one every year for the past 10 years, ever since they stated I was claiming tax credits (which I wasn't) and had two jobs (which I didn't). This year thought I'd escaped as got nothing through... but phoned up and checked. Appears because I always do it on-line, they thought I didn't need a paper pack sending through, and yes, I still need to do one. Glad I checked. Be doing one next week. :x

for some reason they do keep sending them to you for no good reason, and despite enquiring on numerous occasions how i get them to cease, their advice never works.

however.

all i did, for 2 years running, is tweaked the numbers so they owed me a v small amount, just a few quid (it's actually fairly easy to legally justify, taxable expense is everywhere...) and they soon took heed of my requests. :)

never believe them if they say you don't need to ....

how do you tell them if you increase your (private) pension payments or anything else...

they tell me every year, no your don't need to, but I insist and I always either owe them something - or they owe me... over some years that could add up either way :o

still gotta do mine, usually do it over the xmas break...

It's one of the few things I am organised about. I keep a large envelope for each tax year and stuff everything in it that comes in that's tax related. At tax return time it's all to hand.
