After almost 2 years of searching, and I don't know how many bulbs that didn't work or fit correctly, I found some that do. These are for the rear turn indicators, but many different bulbs are available. They were not cheap, however.

These are the WeissLicht LED Turn Signal Bulbs. They fit just fine, no error messages, and the blink rate is correct. Be sure to check your fitment, because I needed 7507 (amber) for my rear signals - Bimmian's guide suggests the 1156.
Pretty tough to justify the cost, but when was it ever easy?
