Finally, it's coming!

After four months of searching, I've found it, my new baby: 2005 Z4 3.0i :D :D :D
Just ordered it from a dealership in Texas and it should arrive in my driveway next week. I'll post pictures as soon as she's here.
I'm so excited I don't know what to do with myself.

She's got almost every upgrade and package imaginable. Sport, premium, power top, nav, bluetooth, xenons, metallic paint, Heated M seats, hifi sound... the works.

Couple questions though:

I've heard the M seats can be rough and uncomfortable, any truth to that?
Also, what can I do about cheaply connecting my iPod to the car? I don't think it comes with an aux jack or iPod dock...

Congrats on the purchase, sounds like a great car, can't wait to see pics!

re: the iPod, there's a couple of threads in the how to section on aux cables, or you can go for an Intravee (I believe the best option as your new baby has Nav), or Dension (some have said negative things about the quality of the Dension though, I think). Have a quick search for Intravee on this forum and you'll fine all the info you could ever need :)

Thanks for the warm welcome :)
Looks like intravee II is sold out :( What are my other options besides Denison? Am I able to feed an auxiliary cable somehow? Is BMW's (pricy) iPod solution any good?
Anybody have an opinion on sport seats?

Greetings and salutations. I happen to have the BMW ipod adapter, which nicely allows me to keep it stashed away in the glove box (about the only thing that fits in there). It is serviceable at best, allowing for only the most basic of control, but few features or frills. BUT I'm no audiophile AND it beats a CD changer any day of the week.

There are probably better systems in terms of display interactivity and features, but it does the trick and keeps the cockpit clean of wires and adapters... I hate car-clutter of any kind.

Cheers and enjoy the miles. :)

OH... Once adjusted, I find the M-seats comfy and supportive. The first few weeks I thought my kidneys were failing and my lower spine would need replacing, but the seats are so supportive they were probably just showing me how poor my posture had been. I can spend all day in them now and wouldn't trade 'em for anything... plus they look the part in these cars.

m seats fine- done hundreds of miles without issue. Just fitted denison and its great- full functionality and tucked away neatly in glovebox

Hmm, well I *think* mine are the M seats... "sport seats" is how I've most heard mine described, not sure :)

But if they're the same then no, they're very comfortable and supportive and lots of adjustments for whatever your body shape/size :)

Congrats on the purchase! :)

Only days away now!
I still haven't found a good choice for iPod integration, Intravees are sold out wherever I look. Any other options out there? I'm considering just getting an aux cable installed through the dealer. Anybody know how much that might run me?

I realize it's silly asking questions about the car when I'll be able to see for myself so soon, but I can't help myself! :D
What sorts of things will I be able to use the nav screen for besides actual navigation? Can I bring up the trip computer or phone functions or anything like that on it?

nuh uh... sports seats != M seats
Mine has sports seats (standard on 3.0 I think?), but M seats are more buckety and good and stuff!
I'm on the look out for some champagne M seats... and some way to pay for them ;)

Wednesday now, still no car. :headbang:
I did however, stumble upon a youtube video that the dealer took when trying to sell it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXq1oWXHVYs

I was wondering, what are those buttons right in front of the back compartment between the seats?

here's the info on the iPod for yah:

The official BMW iPod connector is pretty good. I have one fitted and one spare (yours for £150 :P).
It works in place of your CD Changer (just like the Denison and Intravee) and will charge your iPod (excluding 6th gen, or new iPhone - although you can get a converter that WILL charge the newer stuff for about a fiver).

You create up to five playlists in iTunes (called BMW1 to BMW5) and these correspond to the first five "disc" buttons along the bottom of the stereo. the sixth button cannot be assigned a playlist, but instead can be used to play all the tracks on the iPod.
The iPod connector works perfectly with the MFSW controls.

The connector end is simply an iPod cable that can be placed anywhere within the car. The official installation instructions recommend the glovebox, but I have mine in the little tray at the back of the central arm rest.

The Denison and Intravee appear to be the crowd favourites, and there are loads of posts on here about them.
I've not got any experience with any of these, but there are plenty of people here that rave about them :)

As mentioned, with ANY of the above three options, you WILL loose the use of the CD Changer if you have one (there IS a way to avoid this, but as I've only got the BMW iPod connector, I have only tested it with that... and it does involve a bit of electronics and soldering.. but still :P)

If you want to keep your CD changer, then your next best bet is an AUX Cable.
There is an AMAZING (if I say so myself ;)) thread on how to create your own cable in less than an hour, for under a tenner.
You can find that thread using one of the links in my signature below.

There is also the "already built" option - the most expensive being the BMW E85-specific AUX in retrofit. Which is £45 (which, for three bits of wire, a socket, two resistors, two capacitors and a bit of plastic is monumentally expensive imo!)

You can also use the MINI R53 (£40.95) or BMW E46 (£39.95) aux cables, but they are not quite plug and play (you need to jiggle the pins in the socket, but it's very simple and there are tonnes of guides on here for it).

You can also buy some 3rd party cables from the internet, with prices ranging from £10 to around £30... but make sure you search this forum first and find out which cable definately works - else you'll be pulling it apart and adding capacitors anyway (as in my aux thread ;)).

Personally, I have the BMW Ipod Connector AND the aux cable and can't see an advantage of switching to Denison or Intravee... installation appears to be much easier for the BMW specific iPod connector, and the only feature it DOESNT have is displaying track names on the radio headunit (which you can't read with the top down and the sun shining anyway ;))
but that's just my own personal taste - I'm sure the three iPod-specific options all have different advantages and disadvantages depending on what it is you want for your money :)

Hope that helps!

congrats :D

yup those buttons are BMW assist stuff, I dont have them in mine and my phone fits nicely there :D

Congrats

M.Seats are fine i have driven 5 hours solid more than once on British A roads :o not the best quality and they were fine and i have had a lower back op.

Dealer wants the money before he releases the car. Bank won't release the money until the car is registered in my state. Can't do that until the car is released... Why me?
