Finally have joined the zed family - pic and a question

Hi there,

So, after a year of searching for my dream car, mainly in Germany (not many used zeds available in Sweden and new ones are ridiculous expensive) I finally found "the one". A 2012 28i melbourne red, automatic with M-sport and only 6000 km on the clock. Driven by an employee at BMW AG.

Very pleased with the car so far. My doubts that a zed should have the straight six is more or less gone, the 28i engine is great and they have really managed to make it produce a nice sound for a four pot. Winter tyres on and haven´t pushed her that hard yet, average consumption around 36 mpg so far which I think is decent.

Only minor concern is that the car lacks the transport bag. According to VIN number it has "Load-through hatch with int. trans. sack". The hatch is there, but only with the little shelf, no transport bag. It also has "Storage compartment package", could that be the cause? Seller at the BMW retailer says car has all the equipment it should have.

By transport bag so you mean the ski bag/cover? That is a very specific option. The storage pack is a compartment with shelves in the centre area along with a few other compartments around the car.

Nice car. I do like the red ones!

My car has the storage hatch with a shelf in it, also a hatch to the boot, but no ski bag, cos I didn't order that. Yours could be the same, although what does "trans. sack" mean....sounds like a bag to me?

I find it a bit strange that my car, when searching it by VIN number, has the option:

S4UTA DURCHLADEOEFF.M.INT.TRANSPORTSACK Load-through hatch with int. trans. sack

which I read as "Load-through hatch with integrated transport sack". According to this site http://www.etk.cc/bmw/EN/search/selectCar/E89/Roa/BMW+Z4+28i/ECE/52/52_3508/ the transport bag should be included with option S4UTA.

Well, no big deal, I can put the skis in a separate bag the few times I will go skiing. :driving:

Hi Anders

I'm Stefan from Denmark, i've recently bought an Sdrive35i with the same option for storage and ski bag sack as yours. I didn't get "the sack" either... still not sure wether or not the previous owner still has it laying around in his garage somewhere :D , or it's really not supposed to come with that option code.

Best regards
Stefan

Lovely zed, and you're right about the 4 pot compared to the 6.....lighter front end and no difference in sound.

.....although there are some on here that don't agree  but I've had both so I know what I'm talking about :D

Oh, and I have the storage pack with no ski bag but not bothered if it should be there or not.
In fact never used the centre hatch in the 14 months I've had it.

I had a 3 and a 5 from new both with the hatch and both with the ski bag. Used the hatch funnily enough for skis but in their own bag so never used the bag. I seem to remember it wasn't that big so if you were say putting 2 pairs in or had big bindings it may not have fit them anyway. Tbh I would have thought they would get in the way on a z they did in the 5 and 3 although skis are shorter these days

Would be good for a curtain pole I guess

Interesting Msport front alloy combo nut I guess the spec is different in different countries

To say there is no difference in sound between a 4 and a 6 is the biggest load of twaddle I have ever heard! Sorry....but you need to get your hearing checked...... :D

I don't think do as it sounds like lux's hearing would have to have improved. To add my view I think my 1.8 sounds better than the 2.5 I drove but it was a bit older and had 25k miles. I did roof up and down but it was an auto which may have made a difference

I've had both so not twaddle at all.
In fact my missus also says that the 20i sounds louder leaving and arriving home and she knows nothing about cars, a bit like you Stark! :P

Thanks for all the replies guys.

To Stefan and others, "good" to know I am not alone in not having the ski bag. Maybe the former owner of my car also found it was a bit small, or he never used it and put it away. Have asked my seller to investigate but no answer yet...

Yes, as lux says, these are my after market winter wheels with Nokian studded tyres. Winter tyres are required during winter by law in Sweden. So far, this winter has been a breeze compared to last couple of years. We have a couple of inches snow right now in Stockholm compared to at least 30 inches last year. But winter tyres are a must nevertheless. I was a bit afraid the zed would suffer from bad winter driving, but so far I am quite impressed. The little car feels quite safe in slippery conditions and the little slope up to my garage is no problem.
So works well as an every day car all year I think. If just the road managers could stop spreading all the salt and gravel on the roads. I hate stone chips...

Speaking about winter driving, here are two more photos for you englishmen that don´t have snow so often
From a little trip on small country roads last weekend.
