Finally got SSS installed, what damage can I do?

So today, I've done a clean OS install (Vista Business 32bit), reloaded all of the software INPA/DIS/SSS etc from the DVD's & ...... exactly the same as before 
Thought I'd try a clean XP install but by PC blue-screens when trying to load from the install CD, I'm at my limit with this now (both technical & patience wise), watch out for an FS post soon :?

Hurrahhh, many thanks to all of you that contributed to try & get this sorted, in the end I installed a clean version of Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, reinstalled the BCables DVD's from scratch & it worked perfectly straight away with no faffing. 
So now I have altered my Zed's indicators to give 3 ticks & to give visual indication of setting/unsetting the alarm. (hardly seems worth the effort does it!

I have no idea why two clean installs of Vista & an XP Pro wouldn't work, my hunch (& I have no proof of this) is that is because they were all 32bit OS's & the VM's are 64bit machines, I did download a utility that proved the hardware was capable of running 64bit VM's from within a 32bit host, the same laptop & OBD cable was used throughout the various windows installations.
I've made a note of all of the various options that can be changed within SSS for an E85 facelift, would that be of any benefit to anyone if I posted them up in a separate thread?

I followed the same procedure for the 2nd Vista, XP Pro & Win7 installs which was:-
1, Clean install of OS.
2, Installed appropriate display/network adapters etc from manufacturers website.
3, Disabled windows Firewall & don't install any AV software.
4, Plug in OBD lead to PC & let it pick up its drivers from the web.
5, Disconnect PC from the internet.
6, Run the Installer DVD's & install the various software in a top-down order, rebooting when suggested each time rather than "reboot later"
7, Run up SSS, if the software complains about wrong screen resolution then alter the virtual RAM to 256mb (not sure why this helps but it does, the screen res issue didn't crop up on the Win 7 install, all others it did).
8, Cancel the error that crops up re needing an file from an XP Service pack 2 disc.
9, Plug OBD lead into car.
10, Ignition to 'on', position 2.
I haven't tried the other softwares yet, just SSS, I guess that they'll probably work ok now hopefully.

I'm running Vista SP2 on a laptop my brother gave to me, so I don'y have any of the original back up disks to do a clean installation again. When I get time i'll re-installal all of the BMCable software to see if this works, however I remember this taking most of thr day to install so i'm going to try to rule out everything else first! It seems so many people have this problem, yet there's no definitive fix for it yet!

Did the VM install ok run from the installer?, before begrudgingly* using a better spec laptop that I had for the BMW software I tried two older laptops, on both of these the VM just wouldn't install at all, the DVD just spinning up momentarily, I think this is because the processors couldn't support running the VMware properly.
(* I say begrudgingly because I wanted the BMW software to be installed on a dedicated laptop, mainly due to the no firewall & AV requirements, so I was hoping one of my old low spec laptops would have done - no such luck!)

The laptop is an ok spec, 4gb of ram, 2.1ghz Dual core processor, and seemed to install VM first time round with no particular problems. I'm not one for giving up, so i'll end up trying every posibility until i get it working.............i could be here a long time!

Thread resurrection.... Same error here, can't ping the vm from the host either, not sure why - gave up after a couple of hours of faffing about with it, laptop is pretty low spec but enough to get this lot installed and running (if not actually working). All because I tripped the airbag light after replacing a window regulator!
