After months of mulling it over, today i just thought what the hell, and bought a Z4.

Nothing to special or new Im afraid.

(If the link works).

Its an 03 plate, 3.0 SE and has done 29K miles.

I paid £10600 for it, which is not too bad when you look at the other prices for low mileage examples.

The question I have is regarding 3rd party warranty. I have had some quotes from Warranty direct, but looking on the cover details it does not mention anything regarding soft tops, or roof mechanisms or roof motors... Now I know that the roof motors are vulnerable to water damage so I want to ensure this is covered.

Which 3rd party do people recommend? and what level of cover?

Kind regards

I don't like Warranty Direct. My partner is still waiting for the cheque from WD after her VW Polo was fixed 2 weeks ago. And the approval process took 2 working days. My all current and previous BMW have/had BMW Extended Warranty.

Yeah she is not in bad condtion for her age, there are quite alot of tiny chips on the front splitter though, and a slight scuff. There are also some small dents on the passenger door due to people opening there doors on it. Dentmaster gave a £60 quote for them so thats not too bad.

I am concerned about the alloys, the owner had just reconditioned them himself so they look good now, but I here bad things about these split rims... is there nothing that can be done? I have used wheel sealant/ wax in the past but I would be surprised if it did much...

Should be collecting her on Friday, I cant wait! :-)

Think I will do the sound generator foam mod straight away!

I will enquire about BMW warranty, see how much it is.

Sound generator foam MoD???
Interested in the BMW warranty quote when you get it.

Car look good!

Used Z4 price really went up since February. I bought my 56-plated 2.5i Sport for £12.5k from BMW dealer 4 months ago, although the car had 42k miles on the clock. It has xenon headlights, black leather, brushed aluminium trim, MFSW, auto-dimming mirror, 108s wheels and iPod interface. I could not resist the low price so I traded in my 523i Sport. :)

Now when I search for used Z4 on BMW website, a 3-year-old Z4 with similar options fitted starts from £16k.

Tell me about it... prices really shot up.

But I couldnt wait any longer... and to be honest I dont think I will lose that much on it, i think once they get to the £9-10K mark the depreciation should be slow, provided they are in good condition.

Sorry, I must have put a strange name down for the sound mod, is there not a mod whereby some foam can be removed? to make it a bit louder?

Right now all I need to do is sell my beloved VW Bora... :-( and buy a little cheap run around for work. Think I will buy a decent cover for the Z considering I dont have a garage.

I don't think you need a car cover unless the place you park is under tree. I always park my Z4 on the drive whatever the weather.

I have WMS insurance and paid a little more for using BMW to do any work, found them very good so far

Well I'm in the same boat as you speed12....hopefully I'll be picking up my Z4 early next week...3.0 SE as per yourself and i've been looking at the warranty situation too..

What i've concluded(after several phone calls and chats with surprisingly not so slimey sales reps) is that there are potentially two options that I'm going to opt for :

1. A quote from www.quotelinedirect.co.uk, which is the prestige/5star(nearly everything/anything) policy, this covers you up to £3000 for any one claim, upto a max of the cars market value for the entire year...with an £50 excess... with this policy I believe that you can take the car wherever you want to get a potential fault rectified and the policy will pay for all the genuine bmw parts required, but is limited to a charge of £39(plus VAT) (£42 within the M25) per hour labout costs from the dealer/garage you choose to rectify the problem with... this policy covers the bulk of issues that you may experience with the car...but not everything.....

2. If you want pretty much everything then as far as I understand you need to contact www.aawarranty.co.uk on 08454 747408 and ask for a gold cover quote....this i understand covers you for every mechanical issue and electrical issue(eg a drop top motor failure amonst other things) that you may suffer- with a few exceptions that are no biggies - but speak to them for the list.... the only other difference from the 5star/prestige cover is that you are covered up to a max of the cars market value for any one claim(not the £3000 as above)...however the total limit is still the same as the 5star policy...eg the market value of the car...

The prices I were given for the 1st option/5Star policy were £260/yr or £519 for 2yrs.... and for the gold cover I was quoted around £500 for 1yr(no 2yr option) - these are based on a 2005 Z4 3.0SE with 27000 on the clock...

The only thing that I'd say to look out for is the "wear and tear" stipulations on these type of policies....I don't understand these 100% as they can be a bit of a grey area, but do ask for an explanation of the wear and tear policy/criteria before you buy any policy - as i believe these can be the warranty providers "get out of jail free card" depending upon the terms and conditions/policy wording of the contract/warranty you decide upon..... read the small print and be careful with this area!

Hope this helps someone/anyone.....as ever...do your home work!
