As per title, and other post(re my Vandalised M roadster).....
After 5 weeks in the Douglas park BMW DEALER/ BMW Approved Bodyshop, getting a Full Respray,New roof linings, etc(inc new rear screen),New Windscreen, etc etc,i got it back looking great,Last Friday..and have been too busy spending time with the wife/out driving the car
A wee explanation as to why it took longer than was expected...........
They ended up having to strip out the roof Insulation and replacing it,as well as renewing the internal roof lining as these were deemed too wet to dry out properly(and ins co had only authorised external roofskin)..this meant a wee delay.
THEN,3 weeks later....on the 1st day i was told it was ready for collection,i went to pick it up,only to be told that during an 8-hour water test the previous day they had found a "small water leak" in the pass footwell.
A small leak being a Very Soaking wet floormat and carpet, which they then stripped the car to pieces to find, initially renewing the pass side doorseal, etc as this had split due to heat from the paint oven!
Still leaking though,so they then checked elsewhere, and found the pass door membrane had also come unstuck due to heat from the oven, which was also replaced and the found that the Housing for the Polen filter had come loose(poss due to windscreen being smashed/as this is located below the w/screen scuttle, and if not fitted properly, leaves a small gap between external bulkhead and internal footwell, pass side.
So,once this was all sorted,it had another full-on water test, which was now all OK
Unfortunately when they were doing diagnostics on the car(just to check evrything over fully),they found the crash sensor and passenger airbag sensors had gone faulty, due to the water ingress, and would need replaced!!
I was asked to collect the car for a 2nd time,a week later....when i had a chance to fully inspect the car, paintwork etc.
This is when i found scratches on the bootlid(on brand new paintwork),and a wee dirt nib below the paint, also on the bootlid, and that one of the wheels, that had previously had no damage to it,now had scuffs on 2/3 spokes...cue a wee delay to get authroisation/inspctn from ins co engnr
Sensors had now been fixed by then also, and they had also removed the passenger seat,to remove the carpets and dry it all out..but,upon re-fitting the pass seat, the seat module failed/cue a new one required, lol.
They then got the go ahead to repair the other(previously undamaged) alloy wheel, and the seat module, etc and i was told to collect the car the following thursday(after xmas now)......
but, when i got there they told me the alloy they had just repaired had come out of the paint oven, and upon re-inflating the tyre,a large bulge had appeared on the tyre :x
They confirmed a new tyre was on order, but wouldnt be with them until Friday morning,so i couldnt take the car away/again!!
They had also fully polished the car again, with a machine polisher ,which had got rid of the few scratches on the bootlid, and had flattened out and polished out the dirt nib;which now means ALL the paintwork's looking great again
Finally got the car back last Friday...the Ins co(Admiral),were,in the main ,very good at getting things done, etc and the Senior assesor and the Bodyshop foreman at Douglas PARK BMW BODYSHOP have been very good to deal with...pity i cant say the same for the Dealerships General Manager, who accused me of trying to get a new car out of my ins .co/ie fiddling them, called me a liar re one or 2 other issues i had,and accused me of taking up too much of his employees time/as if the issues that had arrisen were somehow my fault!!
Go FiGURE
Last, but not least, between my 3rd and 4th trips to "collect car",a 3inch scratch has appeared on my Drivers seat, which the gen.manager is blaming on a previous repair :? Wtf??,that and my central locking bar that locks the fuleflap has stopped working, after i had got the the car home...ins co going to deal with these though, haha
All the hassle aside, the cars now been well repaired and all work has a 5yr gaurantee, inc work not done/future issues that may arise due to the Vandalism/water ingress as result, which i have in writing
So als well that ends well, and the bodyshop guys themselves (and bmw mechs0have done a great job,and been very thorough with checking everything,so pretty happy, all in all.
If ur still awake, thanks for reading...and i will POST PICS ASAP/WHEN I CAN GET TIME/WEATHER TO WASH N POLISH IT AGAIN(as now qt dirty)
