Finally Fitted New Speakers

Well after talking about it for 6 months, I finally got round to changing some of my speakers,

I have the 11 speaker system in my car, and one thing that has always bugged me, is the mid range, on the whole the sound was pretty good, so I replaced the two door speakers and tweeters with Audison APBMW K4M speakers and tweeters and changed the centre speaker with Eton UG B100, and the difference is,,,, amazing, crystal clear, punchy mids, and crisp treble, in fact the first thing I had to do was roll the treble down, a lot. when I took out the BMW ones, I really couldn't believe what they had put in, as this system is not a cheap upgrade from them.
I bought some sound deadening to go around and behind the speakers, but with the doors, there is so little room I couldn't get much behind them, which I guess is a good thing.
If anyone is thinking of upgrading a similar stereo to mine, I would highly recommend this as a start, mind you the Audison`s were £270 and the Eton £120, so not cheap

Good news Rusty, well worth paying for quality...

I’ve got the 14 speaker jobbie which could be a lot better, I’ll be looking into the same thing so it’s great to read you’ve found a good upgrade.

When I was looking for my car John, I drove a few with the HK 14 speaker system, cant say I was that hugely impressed with it, mind you I didn't have time to change many of the settings, I spoke to Audison, and they say even on the HK system these make a huge difference and they are plug and play which is a real bonus, I guess a lot comes down to how much of a audiophile you are

Yep quite agree Rusty, the 14 HK lacks depth and midrange. I suppose for £750 which was the upgrade price over the quite awful business 6 speaker thing it’s reasonable but why BM didn’t offer much better system, as in what you’ve just done, for anyone that wanted it I don’t get.

Another one interested here!

New batteries and crank the volume up on your hearing aid will cure your needs Ronk.... :poke:

Direct USB/3.5mm plug might help!

A few years on the clock doesn't help - but we always used the cans at work for the loud bangs!
Im pleased to say that my hearing isn't that bad - High frequencies aren't as they should be but i can still appreciate good quality sound.

HI guys,

This might be a stupid question but how would you know what system you have in your car.

As in how many speakers.

There are never stupid questions,,, if you want to improve your sound, speakers are always a good place to start, you don't have to change all of them (at least not to start with), the main sounds come from the door speakers and if you have them tweeters

If the car doesn't have 12, 13 and 14 is the wiring there to plug into?
And if it is would the amp be suitable or would it need to be changed too?

Exactly the question I was going to ask...... and also if the wiring is there, what recommendations are there for a speaker to put there?
