Collected the car on Tuesday and I am very happy with it. The trip home (roof down) was on a mix of roads so it gave me chance to test it's abilities. My test drive, the week before, was as a passenger even though the owner offered to let me take the car with my wife for a spin!
I was surprised by the performance. If you cruise at 2500 rpm it is a very smooth civilised quiet car, but drop it a gear and floor the right pedal and it becomes a hooligan and keeps pulling faster as you near the red line. It is almost like a turbo engined car spooling up the boost the faster you thrash it.
Considering it is a normally aspirated 6 I was surprised there wasn't more low down torque, but the soundtrack when you give it some does become addictive
Do re-maps change anthing to the torque curve ? I have read there is about 20-30 bhp gain to be had. Has anyone gone the route of OBD chip tuning on this engine? I have seen a system that uses a module that plugs into the OBD socket and the chip can be turned on or off by a bluetooth app on your phone.
My only gripes are the way the electronic handbrake works and the none functionality of the phone buttons on the steering wheel and radio.
My everday Vauxhall has an electronic handbrake which self releases when you set off. The BMW system doesn't so I embarrassed my self at the first set of lights when back in my home town by stalling the engine when the lights changed as the handbrake was still on.....Doh! Is there any reason why BMW haven't made them self release?
Obviously the car didn't have bluetooth phone capability specified when new...a bit mean on a car costing around £30k when new???? I am going to fit a 3rd party 10.1 inch Android media screen in place of the top cubby hole, so this should fix this one and also add the Sat Nav that I was looking for in the spec of the car when searching.
Just hope we get summer back soon for some more roof down driving action
