Final race - Vettel or Alonso??

2012 will go down as one of the best seasons I can remember.

That has to be one of the all time classic F1 Races. To see Shuey move over for Vettle was something special, handing over the mantle. :thumbsup:
 
was he actually overtaking under yellows or were the boards orange which indicates 'slippery track'?

i saw the footage and it looked yellow, but does seem odd that no penalty was given.

Vettel is one JAMMY bstard. He got a massive thwack from Senna and zero serious damage. Anyone else would have had to crawl back to the pits and retire.A great season, good riddance to Hamilton, I think he'll go into meltdown without the controls Mclaren placed on him.Looking forward to March already.
 
Great drive from Seb. Great to see him fight from last to 6th. If it wasn't a championship decider I've no doubt he'd have been on the podium.

Reminds me of '88 with Senna stalling on the grid then fighting back to win :)

Not a fan of either Vettel or Alonso particularly, but it would be a farce to retrospectively change the winner of the championship. Having watched the video, it seems fairly clear Vettel overtook under yellows so deserves some form of sanction but what exactly, I don't know.

I really don't like race results being changed hours or days after the race, and one that changes the championship must be a nightmare for the FIA.
 
Evidently the YouTube clip does not show a waved green flag from a marshal which signifies race on and trumps the next yellow light.
 
Even if the FIA don’t take the title off him, he will always be remembered as the driver that won 3 consecutive titles with the 'fastest car'

Please don't include those two names in the same comparison. Vettel may be 3 times World Champ, but he is not Senna. He may yet prove himself worthy of that comparison, but I don't think he's there yet.

It's funny that Vettel got such a massive wallop and stayed in one piece - and yet Lewis has had a a few taps this year and it's ruined the McLaren. Adrian Newey always used to get a reputation (especially during his time at McLaren) for building fast but very delicate race cars. It's obviously unfounded, because that RBR took quite a hit.
Massa's driving on Sunday was inspired at times. For me driver of the day was almost him for the way he toyed with Mark Webber, but would have to be pipped to it by Button. While everyone was diving in for the wet tyres Button was doing a great job out there on the dry ones. Thoroughly deserved win IMHO.
 
So F1 2013, any predictions?

As far as I see it...

RBR will still have the fastest car so expect lots of wins for Vettel and an odd couple for Webber.

McLaren could actually do better - Perez will win races but will make mistakes however it'll be another "make or break" year for Button. If he can develop the car around him pre-season and start the year fast, it's the closest McLaren might ever be to having a Number 1 driver - in which case the most likely time they'll win a Driver's Championship. Something they've not won since they quite obviously favoured Mika Hakinnen or Lewis.

Ferrari - might get their act together? I doubt they'll produce a car as fast as the Red Bull or McLaren but on occasional tracks it'll suit it and they'll win, or Alonso will just once again wring it's neck of all performance and get them race wins that flatter their actual position.

Mercedes - As said above, Lewis being grumpy when Jenson wins a race and Merc qualify 10th. A year with maybe one race win or two for Hamilton, and that's it. Building for the future will be interesting - to see if he can and if he can lead a team. His outright talent will be what wins anything next year, not the car.

Lotus - No idea! More consistency from Kimi, a couple of wins, dark horse for title in a car that's much like the Ferrari - not the fastest but well suited to certain tracks therefore picking up the odd win.
 
Great to see Button bookend the season with wins. A class act.

It no longer needs to be a flag, the lights are replacing flags at fixed positions. I suppose the question is when does green come into effect, when you first see it or when you pass it, if the latter then Vettel overtook under yellow.

As for 2013, I think RBR will struggle a bit more as some of the new rules will affect their interpretation of the laws. Particularly as I understand it to do with their flexible nose. I think Mclaren will be an 'almost' team again, Button is just not quite in tune with things and Perez is a bit too hot headed. Ferarri I'm sure will be at the front once again. Let's hope some of the others can improve a bit.

I'm expecting 2014 to the be the significant year, more Kers and Turbos let's just hope they sound alright.
