Fifth Gear tonight - Boxster/Z4/RX-8 showdown!

Your Z made a good account of itself. Looks like a cracker and no way is it worth only £5k unless it's done 150k miles. I'd also be shocked if you got a well maintained Boxster S for anything less than £6k. When I bought my Z last year I was watching Boxsters as well and well maintained ones with reasonable mileage were still going between £7k-£9k.

I think the other option in this piece should have been a 350z or an S2000. 2 roadsters against a coupe doesn't make any sense. If you want a roadster your hardly ever going to consider the RX8. In fact, if you have any sense at all you are hardly ever going to consider an RX8. His sign off at the end should have been "I'd pick the RX8 and have £3k left over for a new engine when, not IF it breaks".

A friend that works at a Mazda dealership was telling that if you have a relatively new RX8 and the engine goes they will now just replace it with the 1.8 from the MX5. Even Mazda have finally admitted it's crap.

PS. The sound of your Z made me really miss mine :(

I thought it was a good piece given its purpose was really only to show that some cars can be picked up for less than expected by the general public. No real intention to compare like with like.

Price is always going to be wrong as they quote for the cheapest they can find and drive a well specced version. Also quote main agent prices such as £3k for a soft top....lol

Great to see a similar car to mine. Age, colour, interior, engine, auto, etc., but it's not for sale at £5k, nor I guess is the chairman's of the Mazda club at £1500

Other than potential snapped springs and roof motors what other problems are there. Do they know something we don't? has anyone replaced an engine let alone spent £10k on one????

Suppose it's a bit much to expect them to know anything about cars. They did buy RX8s after all :rofl:

Would the "mayo" issue create a need for a new engine?

Good little video though, other than the 3.0L being the only engine to consider. I think many owners of the ///M, 2.0, 2.2 and 2.5 may disagree. Horses for Courses after all.

Porsche interiors do age very badly. The interior is the main reason I'm not considering a Cayman S.

As mentioned,it does make it sound as though u can get 1 for 5k up,like the 1 he was driving(urs),but we know better :D

I sold my old 3.0 for £5500 last year. It was in great nick with 88k on the clock fully loaded with M seats, mfsw etc. They are 10 years old now and high milers arent worth a whole bunch more than 5k.

That was the point of the piece. All 3 are terrific value now in their own ways. The RX8 is unbeatable for its drive, looks and 4 seats in its price. The Boxster has a badge that you wouldnt believe is that cheap to buy. And the BMW, well its a wood burning stove roadster of reliability for the cash. All of them are well worth the cash, fact.
