Few questions : winter tyres

Hello !

I have a few questions regarding winter tyres... I've just bought my Z4 e85 3.0; and I realised my winter wheels are (all four) 205/50 r17 (H - up to 210 km/h).

First question : is this size (205 50 r17) normal ? It doesn't seem to be popular at all
Second question : is the H rating authorised ? Shouldn't it be W (up to 250 km/h - matching the car's specifications for max speed) ?
Third question : I'm 100% sure that I will get rid of the summer runflats. But as I also need to replace the winter tyres I wonder if non-runflats are also a much better choice in this case, performance-wise? Note that I don't care if I get a flat tyre in a cold winter night :P .
Fourth queston : Should I buy these new tyres in the "standard" size 225/45/17 ?

Oh and if someone can recommend me some good winter tyres or give a link to a topic discussing this, that'd be GREAT !

Thank you for your help!! :D

Something like these would be a good choice. These may be 'last years choice' but the price reflects this. Still scores high in most of the tests. I went non RF and brought a small compressor with tyre repair to go in the boot for £ 18 ish. V rating is up to 149 mph.
For top performers pay a lot more ofc.... http://www.mytyres.co.uk/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?s_p=Michelin-ALPIN-A4-205_50-R17-93V-XL&details=Ordern&typ=R-205198&cart_id=23668494.110.7228&ranzahl=4&Breite=205&Quer=50&Felge=17&Speed=H&weiter=0&kategorie=6&Ang_pro_Seite=20&sort_by=tests&Transport=P&dsco=110&sowigan=Wi&rsmFahrzeugart=PKW

Generally thinner tyres are better for straight line speed, so nothing wrong with that size, might be a stretch depending on your alloy size.

I'd contact your insurance about the H rating. In theory nothing wrong as you cant legally go faster then it... But they may have issues with it!

I got V ratings as they didnt cost more for my winters!

I have to run my rear winter tyres at 3psi less than the PS3's.

In terms of a winter performance tyre, forget it, they'll perform better in adverse weather conditions, but can be a little temperamental with traction control bleeping away in damp war mosh conditions
