Few newbie questions !!

I went to look at some Z4's earlier surprisingly affordable at my local dealers, I'd been to look at Sciroccos earlier in the day which to my surprise were more expensive.

I currently drive a 2010 Seat Ibiza Cupra 1.4 TSI 180, very quick with a 0-60 of around 6.5 secs and top speed of around 142 not too quick but plenty enough, there have been a lot of noted issues with this particular engine and unfortunately it seems that serious engine problems are now when not if !

Looking through the various models, despite being slower I quite like the package offered by the 2.0 or z41.8, won't be as fast but completely different and a step up in class.

I then noticed the 28 or 2.0 again much quicker however similar running costs, so my question really is what is the real mpg on the two I travel about 50 miles a day mainly motorway at 65.

Also are there are pointers or common faults on either that I should be aware of ?

Any help will be greatly appreciate and thanks for having me !

I know the 28i and 20i have identical co2 and MPG figures, but I can't help with a real world comparison I'm afraid! I used to drive my 20i mainly on the motorway at similar speeds to you and achieved 42-43 mpg no problem. I now only drive country roads (spirited) and get 31!

The only issue I've had is a few roof rattles but the dealer sorted this out with no fuss!

I get around 33 mpg from my 28 on mainly urban driving. Longer trips including motorway cruising give about 40mpg.

I have the 28i and i'm impressed with the mpg. I get around 40-45mpg on the motorway at sensible speeds but less with round town and urban driving. Depends on how heavy your right foot is though really.

The 28i is a superb engine in terms of power delivery and torque. 0-62 is 5.5 seconds and 155mph.

Mine is for sale at the moment (62 plate mineral white 28i with red leather - 2900 miles on it) for £23,995. Reason for sale is that my job now means that I have to get the train to work so I drive it very little, hence the low miles. PM me if you want more details etc.

Thanks for the input gents, Nezzy you'll have send me a couple of pics via PM I would certainly be interested, it's not secret that there are not many for sale anywhere. Suspect due to the fact of the performance and economy mix.

I don't want the 23i so it will either be the 20i or 28i I've decided, the running cost and economy mix is fairly similar to mine at present.

As said however it's a class above in many respects.

Thanks Again

Mine is a 28i and according to Fuelly I got 22 mpg the last tankfull. To be fair that is virtually all tootling around town with bouts of extremely heavy right foot In between so I'm not suprised..

I've had people who say that fuelly is ok but not fully accurate. I don't mind at weekends if I get 10 lol, it's just on my commute where I need to be around 40ish just to avoid taking the pish really

When I went to Cornwall I was getting high 30's so im happy with the fuel consumption
