Iv had 2 very enjoyable years since passing my test and really enjoyed owning my new hornet.
Last weekend I noticed a BMW K1200R at a biker meeting place and thought it looked awesome so went home to investigate, my initial thoughts were that the insurance would be horrific so I was going to check that first expecting a massive quote and put the whole idea to rest.
To my total shock the quote came back at only £50 more than I currently pay for my hornet, so it looks like the 2 years no claims makes a huge difference come renewal time and the dream is alive.
Any one got any opinions on these? It will probably be feb/march time when I am looking to change but there don’t seem to be too many of them about.

I used to run a K1200 RS - slightly different engine configuration but silky smooth power delivery. Wishbone style front suspension felt odd at first with little dive under heavy breaking but something you get used to and I felt was much better in corners. I think they still have the same push button indicator system on each bar grip which is different to the conventional up/down single bar switch but again after use I preferred the BMW style. Finish was excellent compared to Japanese - after a winter ride the BMW would come up like new with a quick wash - after a winter ride on a Japanese machine all the alloy bolts would start to corrode. Service pricing was much the same and I felt I got generally better service from the BMW dealer (Robsons at York) than mainstream Japanese bike dealers.

Ah cool, one of the things i was concerned about was the price of servicing but if its inline with jap stuff then thats fine, i think its the attention to detail, the engineering and detail in the design thats attracting me towards it.

Looks nice and surprised about insurance, i'm just buidling my NCB, have got one and next year can get a better one. currently riding a fazer.

Seems to make a huge difference, i will have 2 years no claims in feb next year as well as my bke being paid off so im thinking of changing then.
First year insurance was about £500 and then with 1 year ncb it fell to £190, with 2 years ncb the insurance on that K1200R is about £240.

The other good thing I found with BMW bikes (and cars) was that the accessories fitted perfectly first time. With other makes I always found you had to make slight modifications (eg holes didn't quite match up)to get things to fit.

I've had several BMW bikes. My last one for 6 years and 40k miles. No problems with any of them. Love their design and engineering , and genuinely good to ride.Dealers good too.
