Feel divorce imminent

Hi roofless

My brother in law had an issue with his car a couple of years ago which dragged on and on and on.

It was resolved by BMW coming up with a very favorable deal to trade in for a new car.

You might push for a similar solution?

At the moment that would be a great solution although i can't imagine i will manage it, i certainly won't get another zed and i'm not that enamoured of the new 3 series as a driving car so it doesn't leave me much option. I'm now pretty certain that in the next 12 months the zed will go. What to get after that, not sure, perhaps a classic mg again, at least i expect them to break down so i won't be disappointed when it does :)

Similarly, I tried that with my Astra VXR which I had a few problems with (nothing like your situation though), and they wouldn't do it, even when I said I would accept a very low price for the car, just to get shot of it.

Roofless, I applaud your attitude towards this. Hopefully, once it's all sorted, you will be able to get out there properly and really enjoy it.

It is possible. Audi exchanged an over year old A3 back in 2000 on a T plate for a 20 mile pre reg X plate after lots of emails and one in particular to the UK MD, for free!! He never replied but I noticed he was copied in to a future 'hope everything is okay....' from customer services!!

To be honest, some of the stories I hear of the excellent customer service from the Audi dealership my partner works at, that wouldn't surprise me even now. I am constantly hearing stories from her of how they have excelled for the customer, which is nice to hear. I would recommend them from our experience of 'buying' an A1 from there. (Audi lease)

Funny really as my experience with Audis is so bad that i would never go near one, including turning up at one dealership with a friend, in a 2 year old a6 estate, my friend was there to look at the new allroad (a few years ago), 10 minutes in the dealership and not one person there acknowledged us, said a word, we walked out and he never went back.
I guess the moral of the story is that, as always, it's down to the people in the dealership to make it work, if they're good, like your partners workplace, great for the customers, if not then everyone loses out. Top marks to your partner and her colleagues

Oh, definitely! I think we're quite lucky in Swindon because, bar Vauxhall, they are all very good.

Another example of the north/south divide :)
That's North and South of Maidstone for the uninitiated
And maidstone is in 'No Man's Land'

Remember not all the dealers are the same, our local bmw/mini are useless but the Audi on the other hand has been great.

Well yesterday i arranged for the car to go back to BMW on Monday to look at the seatbelt and speaker grille. Today i find oil on the rear shelf upon which the roof sits and now i have had a chance to look more closely i can see that the oil hasn't been cleaned off the framework of the roof bars, also the electric cable run is looped out and in my opinion could easily catch on something as the roof mechanism closes.
So not a happy bunny tonight, me thinks a walk across the fields to the pub is in order.

PS, have felt like a complete plonker driving round all day with a tea towel over my shoulder to stop oil getting in my suit again.

so sorry it is still ongoing, sounds like they need to be reminded of all the trouble and inconvenience this has caused, how long it has taken them so far and they have still not bee carefull enough to put it back together properly and clean it. I would make a list of avarything that has happened and remind them of the purchase price you paid and the poor service so far. Ideally when they are busy with other customers to embarass them. also joke about the joy of driving and say you have dad very little of that recently.

Demand they go over your car with care and time to make sure they sort it properly this time. Do you have any other dealers you could try to get this sorted maybe another one in your area that has good reviews?

Awaiting new seatbelt and speaker grille. Annoyingly, when i got to the dealership there was no visible sign of the oil on the parcel shelf, just under where the front 'corner' of the roof sits. Having driven the car yesterday and had the roof up and down a few times i then found the oil mark again which in sunlight is easier to see.
I'm not a good complainer unfortunately but have taken a pic of the oil and now need to speak to the service manager again and explain that my concern is not about having parts replaced if they show oil signs but ensuring that the oil is removed from the car altogether as i don't know how long residual oil might creep down the inside of the roof structure. Proving it's there is the problem.

Out of interest roofless, is your car financed through BMW?

Mine is, and mine did spend quote a lot of time in the garage after I bought it, I complained saying I was paying XXX a month to drive courtesy cars.

They gave me a month free!

Just a thought.

If only but no, i have already said that i'm unhappy to be paying for a car that i can't use, didn't get me too far unfortunately but i sense another visit to the dealership tomorrow am. I use my car all day and driving to appointments with the smell of oil around me and a cloth on my shoulder is getting beyond ridiculous.

Just out of interest i'd be grateful if you e89 owners out there can tell me if you have an oily residue on the roof framework, the black supports that hold the roof panels. A poor picture is attached just to give an indication of where i mean.

and i know this doesn't look much and it's nothing in comparison to what i had when i got back but hopefully i am not imagining the oil on the parcel shelf

it just smacks of an ongoing problem and i don't want the plastic changed just for it to get messed up again.

The black framework / mechanism on mine does look very 'slick' as if its been liberally coated in some sort of lubricant. Mine has been in countless times for rattles though, and the last time it came back it was covered like this. Its never dripped though, but if I touch it it does end up coming off on my hands. Its not liquid enough to drip though, more a grease than an oil/fluid.

That's only on the parts I can see when it folds, ie on top itself, the mechanism part that lives in the boot (which I think your photo was of) is actually quite dry on mine.

Cheers, that's interesting, the passenger side in mine is mainly clean but has a small patch on it, the drivers side is slick with something, i assume it's oil as the smell is reminiscent of watchmakers oil or such like.
