Feeder fishing in Birmingham

Hi All,

Are there any fisherman on here from Birmingham?

I'm off there for the weekend and needs to kill 6 hours Saturday, can anyone recommend somewhere I can fish the feeder? either bream or carp.

Packington Somers Fisheries is good with about 10 pools to choose from and very close to the N.E.C so easy to find.
Or there's Barston Lakes just up the road from Packington some big fish in the main pool there, but can get really busy. The river Blythe runs right by the main pool (20 metres or so away) so if you fancy a bit of river fishing too you have the option.
Best of luck, you'll need it in this weather.

Great, Thanks for the reply, think I'll put some terminal tackle in the Z and take a look

Some great fishing south of Birmingham also, I've gone back to my youth and I've been fishing rivers for the last few years. Quieter, more relaxed and there are some really nice stretches you can fish for about a fiver.

The Severn is renowned for Barbel fishing around Bewdley, maybe not as easily accessible as some of the pools etc but well worth a day if rivers are your thing.

I'm a fair weather fisherman these days but if you ever fancy a few pointers or a day on the river after June 16th, let me know. I've found some amazing spots, which has took some perseverance, with lots of blanks along the way. Half the fun I guess.

Great thanks.

I must admit I haven't been fishing over the last 5 years.

When I was younger 16 - 19 I made a living out of fishing and went all over uk and fished the annual festivals in Holland which are amazing. I was sponsored and fished 3/4 matched a week at the time.

Fishing for a division 1 national team I was fishing with the likes of Alan Scotthorn, Bob Nudd, Tommy Pickering etc , had some great results and should have stuck with it. One of my fellow team members and a guy I used to go to Holland with is now in all the magazines and on TV every night, a chap called Nick Speed, a very good angler.

You must have been pretty decent to be fishing with the likes of Bob Nudd etc Buddy.

I'm a bit of a fair weather fisherman myself now but used to do a bit of match fishing back in the day, However its all poles and the like now. When I fished competitively it was ABU 506 closed face reels and carbon rods :)

I live just outside Evesham where they hold the River avon championship every year which is always a good weekend.

Tight lines !!

Hi Ray,

Ive use the Abu 501 close raced reel for trotting  Lovely reels.

Iv won a few matches/festivals in my time, the last team division one national I fished I qualifies for the individual nationals but couldn't make it that day due to being on holiday which was a shame.

will be nice to cast a line tomorrow :)

Good luck with your little trip out tomorrow, you must have been a pretty good dangler to have gone up against
the likes of Scotthorne and the Nuddster, you probably dont need telling but the river season has finished now till
june 16th. I cant help out with any fisheries around Birmingham I have only ever fished the sourthern rivers and the
Lakes around the Colne Valley and a few just past Oxford,
Im off next week to my syndicate lake for a few days will be the first trip out since november I cant wait, I caught the
2nd biggest in the lake last year im hoping to have the biggest one next week although as it hasnt been caught for 8 years
There is probably more chance of me fling to the moon

I didn't realise there were so many anglers on the forum! It seems to be something you either "get" or not.

I've just sold all my carp gear, started off as a teenager on the rivers but got into carping in my twenties. Best carp venue I've been to is White Acres in Cornwall, best known for match fishing but the specimen lake really is awesome. I then drifted back into river fishing.

Matt Hayes' uk home is a few miles from me and regularly used to see him fishing, Des Taylor is a regular in some of my local pubs (not sure how famous he is) and both are really approachable wether in the pub or on the bank.

June the 16th is like Christmas Day for fishermen, I'd forgotten the season had closed already.....counting down the days.

Matt Hayes Launched his TFG tackle line when I was in and around the trade scene, I was invited to his head office in Wales i think it was, he gave me a few of his rods to try, they're OK tbh for the price point about £100 from what I recall.

They didn't compare to my Tournament range I was using at the time though.

Yes cant wait for the 16th I will be on the Thames that night

you cant compare the mass produced chinese tackle to quality stuff like Daiwa its like night and day

Hi Guys,

I didn't take any tackle in the end, it was raining heavy when I set off Saturday morning (6:30am) in Rotherham so didn't bother cramming anything in the Zed. Then about 2pm is was beautiful and wish I had lol

I did walk about Packington Somers Fisheries on Sunday morning, there was a match on so stood at the bottom of the road next to the horse shoe lake for an hour or so and watched.

Not a lot happening which surprised me, the pond looks awesome and with it only being 14.5 metre across I expected more people to be fishing the long pole tight to the reeds, only one young lad was in the end leg and he was making it look hard bless him. He hooked and lost 3 whilst I was there. He didn't have control of the pole and was struggling.

Got a brand new Daiwa Tournament X in the garage so keen to get out for a few days and give it a bash. I got my carbon Rive box out last week and washed the dust and spiders off it lol it hasn't been out for 18 months, that was £1200 well spent
