I have heard many tales of woe about the Meyle mounts,
Has anyone used the FB ones, any feedback appreciated

As I'm about to start assembling the parts for a suspension refresh, and have obviously been living under a stone somewhere, what 'woes' are associated with the Meyle mounts? Had them on my list........
 
I can highly recommend the Rogue Engineering rear top mounts as an alternative :thumbsup:

Only challenge then is to stop your credit card running off with all the other sexy bits they do for the Z

As I'm about to start assembling the parts for a suspension refresh, and have obviously been living under a stone somewhere, what 'woes' are associated with the Meyle mounts? Had them on my list........

No idea why that would be :idunno:. Thinking of doing mine too so will stay away from the rear Meyle ones for that reason.

Which is annoying as there's a chap on Ebay selling rear Sachs, dust covers and Meyle top mounts for £155.

Fitted Lemforder on the rear of mine 3 years ago and they've been perfect. No knocking whatsoever :thumbsup:
 
From what I can find on some of the other bmw forums, the FB ones are pretty much the same as Lemforder. In starting the thread I was hoping someone on here had experience before I give them a go.
The rogue engineering ones look really good and make future rear shock replacement alot easier but they arw expensive and I don't think I will be doing the job again.
If I fit the febi ones I will give some feed back.
 
Heard the same about Meyle rear shock mounts. The rest of the Meyle suspension parts seem to be excellent. I fitted their front lollipop bushes a year ago, no issues. In the process of refreshing rest of suspension as fitting koni’s and eibach springs using Meyle front sway bar links, turner ‘repair shop’ rear shock mounts with reinforcement plates, lemforder front top mounts, Lemforder rear sway bar mounts, new spring pads, bump stops and shock gaiters. I found Pelican parts a great source, 10% first order discount and arrived here in NZ in 6 days using FedEx priority delivery which cost $90 Nz dollars.
 
Thought I'd update this as the Febi mounts have been fitted for a few miles now, no noise from them at all, they are identical to og ones that came off and were inexpensive :thumbsup:

I paid 7.90 for them

I have just had fitted lemforder top mounts and i am getting a terrible knocking on ever single slight bump in the road,its almost constant.the car has had exactly the same set up just done on front with no issues,bilstein b4s suplex springs,lemforder top mounts.
The car drives and feels much much better but the knocking is driving me insane.
Will have to take it back to garage for an alternative solution.

Just had a similar issue when I changed my rear shocks.
Tightened everything up, dropped it off the jacks and re-torqued everything, then took it for a ten mile run, all good.
Next day missus reports it knocking.
Investigation found the top nuts just loose enough for a tiny bit of play in the cup washer.
I can only assume it was because I dropped it straight down and didn't move the car back or forwards a few feet to settle the suspension.

I'd always recommend using genuine BMW top mounts on the rear. This is not an expensive part - it's not worth trying to save a few pounds IMHO.
 
Just to update my issues.
Took my car back in to have the rattling and knocking looked at,the guy that did the work took it straight back in and after a lot of investigation found that on the bilstein shocks the bottom hole that takes the bottom bolt is very slightly thinner around the hole,this meant the bolt was then too long and was bottoming out just enough to not fully lock the shocker in place.
were talking a couple of mm,after using a very slightly shorter bolt the issue is fixed and the car drives great with no knocks or rattles :thumbsup:
 
Which dampers did you have fitted Swanny ? I used b4 and a new bolt (from bmw and identical to the one that came out), it all snugged up and torqued up with no knocking at all, having done mine myself I’m not sure I subscribe to what the guy who did your work said to be honest. I could be wrong but I would think there’s a good number of folk on here that have fitted bilstein without issue.
I’m glad you’re sorted now though and able to enjoy the way your car now feels, have you had 4 wheel alignment done too?
