The B4391 in N.Wales is superb, the B6277

Yes,good one
M-in-T to Alston road even better. A thrash up the Hartside Pass from Melmerby to the summit is great fun. The B6255 Ingleton to Hawes road and continuing on to Thwaite over the Buttertubs Pass is fabulous.
Yes,some of my favourites too in those areas.

Many others also spring to mind but in the company of friends and in a convoy of Z4s they are all sublime. However, if I had to choose just one road to drive then hands down and without hesitation I would head up to Carronbridge just north of Dumfries and then up the A702 Dalveen Pass to Elvanfoot. IMHO the best 15 miles of 'drivers' road in the country. If you catch it right with no or very little traffic and if the weather is dry it is just fantastic :driving:
You can then turn left back down the Mennock Pass and then right at Crawick up to Crawfordjohn. If you look on a map this forms an enormous 44 mile s-shaped route which really takes some beating. In fact it's so good I did it 3 times last summer...in both directions :D Screenshot_20220207-201738_Maps.jpg

Couldn't agree more, drive it many many times over the years, and even included them in many of my meets in and around Dumfries and Galloway.

They're so much better to drive in a z4 than a wee works van right enough, lol
Bit far from you to travel to for a jaunt though?
When was the first time you drove it,on ore of my runs or what?
Hi Craig. Probably first drove the Dalveen Pass as a teen with my old Dad on our way hillwalking somewhere, but first drove it 'properly' about 20 years ago in my bike-engined kit car. Good times :driving: Then not for years until your D & G weekend in April '17 I think. Had forgotten how exceptional it really is. Drove it a few times last year up and down to Scotland both in my Z4 and my F11 5er with the family as I like to get off the M6/M74 to break up the monotony. I think it in particular and many other roads in that area are just fantastic

Yes the B4391 Bala to Blaenau Ffestiniog is tremendous. As is the stretch between Capel Curig and Llanberris.

Another a little further south in Wales is the link between Penderryn and the A470.

I didn't read the prior posts (couldn't be arsed) so sorry if this has been done.....

The A483 (I think) mid Wales in my Escort XR3i in 1986. Great windy roads up and down the mountains in a car with 115bhp and not too much grip. I cooked the brakes and got seriously worried that I was going to die (I was 18). :o

Edit just googled it. May have been the A470. It was a long time ago.

Hired some Caterhams and the reduced width makes some of the car and a half wide glen roads a lot more :driving:
https://youtu.be/WBCWV1V3Tu4 turn it up in 4k for the full k series experience. Glad to get back to the BMW, they are way to loud and raw but great fun for a few hours in the sun.

Loop from Crieff to Braco to Comrie then up past loch earn to Kilin round loch Tay and over from Aberfeldy back to Crieff down the small glen. Throw in a few single track glen roads up towards Schiehallion if you have something narrow enough not to have to stop in all the passing places.

Indeed the A470 is a good route. It's my default route up and back to Snowdonia for climbing and quicker that using the motor ways too.

Scotlandshire does look fantastic in the sunshine.
Never seen it in person, as it has always rained when I've ventured to that particular colony.

Joking aside I think you may be right.
I was driving to Livingston a few years ago, beautiful summer's day not a cloud in the sky on the M6 past the lakes and up to Carlisle. As soon as I got to the "welcome to Scotlandshire" sign it started getting misty. By the time I had got to Abington it was raining and didn't stop until I crossed the border the next day. Then back to sunny summer's day.

The one that sticks in my mind is the B6479 out of Settle, lots of twisty roads and up and down rises through Horton in Ribblesdale right up to Ribblehead Viaduct. Turn right onto the B6255 with another lovely road down into Hawes.

Not favourite ever, but I recently took the "Old Ross Road" between Ross-on-wye and Abergavenny, as a means of getting to a few of the more famous driving roads mentioned in here, and it was brilliant. About 20 minutes of fairly well-sighted, well surfaced country road in lovely Monmouthshire. Even on a bank holiday morning it was almost empty.

Although I live here the the Peak District has some pretty epic roads IF you know the back whacks and pick your time of day to go for a hoon. You really can go out for a few hours on end and not see a fixed revenue camera. Wales and Scotland are probably longer and better but there's some cracking runs here. :driving:
