Faulty roof

My car developed the usual roof not opening problem , the rear section stopped working not opening , causing a fault , my local BMW dealer solve the problem apparently, now the car is back in the shop with the same problem and I have Just been told The problem is The rear windscreen needs replacing , why would this be anything to do with the mechanism of the roof , The dealer has told me that they are waiting for somebody to replace the rear screen , I have no idea what this has got to do with the mechanics of the of the boot any advice would be very welcome

I would also question why the rear window would cause the roof not to open, most faults appear to be either micro switch faults or cable breaks. I wonder if it’s a case of “we’ll try this and see if it fixes it”

The only relationship between the rear screen and the roof opening is that the rear screen heater is commanded off when stowing the glass panel in the boot!

That’s exactly what I thought

When I did my own diagnostics it came back with microswitch faulty . I don’t want the rear screen replacing if it’s not necessary , you would think they knew what they were doing, Unless they have damaged it somehow in the repair process.

You need to invest in a code reader, buy one with lead attached. Can get for about 20 quid, worth their weight in gold.
Then let us know what is says. They sometimes don't tell you a specific fault, but lead in the right direction.
My £130 Foxwell reader paid for itself. Told me of salmon relay and broken wire faults.
Knowing i paid 18k for a car, 130 for code reader is peanuts.

I assume they are covering the cost of this now you have asked a few questions and they have admitted liability?

What was their plan before this - get you to think the switch was part of the roof issue and have you pay for the rear window or how would they explain the missing cost on the invoice?

Think I may be avoiding them in the future

They are covering the cost of the new window . But I am still not happy I just hope I don’t end up with leaks , and all the other work is covered by extended warranty .

Fills you with confidence that a BMW dealer with access to all the correct diagnostic information/equipment/tools can make a mistake like this.

In past i ordered the 510, they sent me 530 pro.

Ah, so two choices now, just to confuse me.

Which one is recommended? The NT510 or the NT530?
they have far too many models. they have suggested the 530 to me as you can have one more car on it..their website is so confusing!

Thanks. I agree entirely!

I was hoping that someone may reply who has actually got one that does everything necessary and could advise on which model they have!
