Faulty headlight / bulb

After a bit of advice please.

Yesterday the warning light on the dash came on that I had a faulty bulb

The drivers xenon headlight was out.

It keeps flickering on and off. When it is on, it's a different shade to the working passenger side headlight.

Tomorrow I'm going to swap the drivers bulb with the passenger's to see if it makes any difference.

But the fact it comes on (albeit) a different shade, does that not indicate the bulb is actually ok? i.e. a normal bulb either works or it doesn't because it is blown. Or are xenon' different?

Thanks

Yeh they have xenon gas in them, but try swaping the bulb over and it will tell you if it's the bulb or the unit

I would say your bulb is on its way out as they can change shade before they blow.

Get yourself a replacement set from power bulbs. Much brighter than the original :)

Or you could get the cool blue ones. I have these and they are brighter than stock

Cheers for that. Just ordered a set and I'll try that first. If it turns out being the unit at least I'll have brighter bulbs at the end of it.

Be mindful that there is a reason why 4300k is chosen by OEMs - I found 5000k tiring at night on longer drives and have been fine at 4300k. They are already much 'whiter' than halogens so you don't really need to add blue to compensate.

Does anyone else find xenons on the zed to be poor. Mine are nothing like xenon's on others cars I've had. Dread to think what standard halogens are like!

Yeah I know what you mean!
Not sure if it's the low nose on the z4 that's the issue as the lights are quite low down.
