Faulty back light led repair

Hi folks, while my Z hibernates in the garage for the winter, I've bought a peugeot rcz to play about with. Now they have a sealed led third brake light which is astronomical in price to replace. I've found a guy that offers a service repairing them, considerably cheaper than buying a new one. I contacted him and asked whether he has done any E89 rear lights (similar device) he hasn't but thinks he could. Has anyone got any more information on the backlight units? Could potentially be a good contact for someone not wanting to fork out on new replacement ones.

I suspect if anyone knows it will be Robbie…the main problem I’ve seen is the two parts separating and water getting in through the crack and then corrosion setting in..not sure how he’d getting over that…revealing the units I suspect would be a challenge..there’s no public documentation AFAIK about how they are built…best of luck to him

Well, that was another interesting project in the past, when I reworked my backlight clusters to "Dynamic Winkers" with a dozen of selectable light sequences.

Different attempts to get the clusters carefully opened...

Summary:
Not an easy job, very time consuming with big risks to destroy more than before. Not worth regarding the current price of about 200€ for a new cluster.

I’ll try the glueing strategy on my old pair that cracked šŸ‘Œ

Good luck. But get it completely dried before starting.

Already existing corrosion can't be repaired in any way. And keep care on re-mounting it. The seals have to be carefully pulled into the trunk before fixing the 2 or 3 nuts.
