Fault or feature?

How do all?

I'm wondering if I've found a feature or a fault with my Z. I've accidentally done it one or two times but only worked out how today.

When unlocking the car with the remote if I double press unlock and instantly open the drivers door the window winds down almost all the way. Closing the door it winds back up. Can't figure out the advantage of such a feature so I'm concerned electrical gremlins are on the horizon.

The car is due a service and is under warranty so I'd like to get to the bottom of it.

Any advice /opinions appreciated. 2011 E89 23i

Cheers

Dan

Mine does exactly the same. Glad I'm not the only one, I thought this could be expensive at some point haha

It allows easier access , if in a tight space an can only partially open the door the window drops so you can learn over the door

This. Its a great feature. for when an idiot parks too close and you need to squeeze back in.

It's called Comfort Opening and is a feature designed to allow you to get into or out of the car in tight spaces.

You can also use the lock button to close everything - took me about 8 years of BMW ownership to work it out (including leaving my 1 Series overnight with all the windows down, but locked and alarmed)! Still, it didn't rain.

Its also handy in a tight garage as you can lock the car whilst still in it then double click to open, hell of a lot easier to get out !

You'll notice that the Windows protrude rearwards a long way - this feature is probably why it's included !
